It's facing the wrong way to be used as anything other than a heat extractor.

Regarding weight: Expect a turbo kit to add ~60lbs to the nose.

Silly question: Are there aftermarket turbos that AREN'T loud as hell? As much as I love spool noise, I'd prefer to be oh so sleepy.

It is kind of ironic that the majority of the aftermarket car business in the US is based in California.

Lots of people, lots of highways and twisty roads, and everything is so spread out practically everyone requires a car. I think that's why we have such a large car culture. Now if we could only do something about the insane legislation.

^ truth.

I honestly would be happy with them just changing smog by removing visual inspections, as long as your car is not producing more smog then It really should not matter if you have a turbo/supercharger/intake/exhaust or anything really. I had a friend fail smog because he had an intake....just a generic intake...

and the cops could not be such d**ks for no reason, We can be doing absolutely nothing illegal, being more cautious drivers than old ladies and still get pulled over just because our cars are lowered ect

Oh I agree 100%. If you can pass the sniffer, you should pass. It's really just a money grab.

But that'll never happen because of the way emissions laws are written. Passing smog is a joke compared to the actual certification testing that an engine has to pass for EPA and CARB certs.

You can pass smog but still be emitting greater emissions than regulation allows. Most smog equipment just isn't accurate enough....although from my understanding the machines are becoming more sophisticated.

<----done more consulting in emissions/performance work for OEM's than I cared to ever do!! lol

A "cold air" intake on a Mazdaspeed 3 can improve power as much as 28whp. Granted, the mazdaspeed utilizes a top-mount intercooler that isn't as efficient. But it is still a good test of how intake temps can improve efficiency and horsepower.

Intake temp is important. that doesn't mean the filter location won't work. It isn't Ideal, but it works just fine. but there could be some gains to be seen from a proper cold-air setup. I'm sure even don will agree. But hey, there's gotta be room for improvement right?

Now, how could you get the intake to pull in cool air? I think a proper naca duct would prove very useful without relocating the filter.

recirc the wastegate back to the exhaust and it should make it very quiet.

yes but you are taking about COMPLETELY different engines. one that is meant to be turboed and one that it's not. Also NA Boxer engines don't take mods well, only forced induction will give you some solid results.

i do agree that the location of that intake is probably the worst unless people make a hoodscoop!

I still think my hollowed out battery shell idea would be sweet in cali, haha and make the passenger side vent have a litle scoop that sticks out like 2 inches past the bodyline, that would really ram some air in there at 70mph...

Or even a manually adjustable scoop circa 1970's mopar air grabber but on the fender and made of cf.....ok im done guys...lol
