Please don't take this negatively but I think you might be out of your element. Take it to a shop or have an experienced friend look at it. If the noise is coming from stripped wheel lugs that car absolutely must not be driven. Period.

If the lugs turn out to be a red herring, you're still back to square one. Blown wheel bearings don't click. They howl.

Driving on the freeway it was howling the whole time I was driving. It was much much more noticeable today. Do wheel bearings make that noise while driving or only turning? Doesn't the rear end howl as well if it was installed incorrectly?

Wouldn't take that negatively, which is why I posted here to ask whatsup. I can't tell anything by sound

if you guys listen carefully you can hear that air sound. Also when I accelerate a little it sounds like theres an air leak. (Note) this sound was only here after the installation of the final drive

and now.. if this wasn't enough to shit on my day my suspension is starting to squeak -_- going up and down a tiny hill

The telltale sign with wheel bearings is that the sound comes and goes with how the wheel is loaded. The problem is if a tire is scalloped from being driven misaligned, it pretty much sounds the same.

I wonder if you have a blown bushing somewhere. That would throw it out of alignment, make a clicking or squeaking noise, and would fuck up your tires.

You really just need to get it to a shop before something tragic happens.

I plan on bringing it back to whoever installed my diff this coming thursday. Won't be driving it all week but will probably have to drive it 40 miles to get it to the shop.

Do you still have warranty? I will assume no, but if you do the dealership will tow it for free as part of the roadside assistance program they have on all Toyotas. Please be careful though, I don't want to read about how your wheel came off on the highway and you crashed.

Do you know how to diagnose a bad wheel bearing?

If not, I would suggest you to have a professional shop make that diagnosis.

So.. went to my alignment shop and they said could be rear end prob or wheel bearing, went to the installer of my rear end and the installer got explosively defensive when I just asked him if there may be a problem with the car it sounds different than before. "Mechanical problems don't fix themselves". It occurs 50% of the time with this sound and he kept trying to talk over the howling sound everytime I mentioned it, then starting to say if you want us to check it out, we'll charge you for labor. Then he told me, it sounds fine to him and that howling sounds are normal for rear end diffs, but honestly every where I check online and every video I hear, it sounds like a rear end diff problem.

At the end of the day I asked him, what's the worst case scenario? He then told me "rear end diff", but that's a .000000001 chance.

So.. essentially he got super defensive without me even mentioning or blaming him when I asked him to check the car out. Am I honestly fucked?

Well, that sucks. No matter what, I recommend immediately cutting your losses on that place. No customer needs to deal with that kind of bullshit.

When I re-read the thread your friend's observation caught my attention. Let's really try to narrow down what, if anything, is happening. Without jumping to conclusions, let's also consider the possibility that the only thing that has changed is your focus on the sounds. That is a good thing because you are learning and becoming familiar with the machine. It's really easy to get caught up in the noises because this car doesn't hide anything.

First, for this test you need to find a stretch of highway that has really fresh quiet asphalt. You will be weaving so it needs to be at a time and place where it's safe to do so and there is no one around to see you and freak out.

Don't speed and don't jerk the wheel. It doesn't take much. Steadily get into a slow rhythm where you are loading and unloading each side.

Is there any change in sound? Take note of the direction you are turning when you hear the difference. It's equally important if a sound disappears as you unload a wheel.

If you notice any changes, do you hear it more from the front, or the rear?

Maybe strap your phone to the passenger side headrest and have it recording before you start the test. Holding the phone is both unsafe and worthless because the changes in sound can be really subtle. I didn't hear anything in your first recording.

I'm looking to rule out one thing at a time. Let's do this test and consider next steps after discussing your results.

Will do that today, thanks!

Doesn't matter when I turn left or right, it whools but this only happens sometimes (more often when it's cold). Highway when I go WOT sometimes it may go away or could be just the outside is louder.
It's hard to hear something in the first recording, it worked for me when I changed the sound to quite a bit louder and I starting to hear the whooling / howling sound
