I'll post my observations once I pick up my car and drive it far enough - since mine is a fresh new 2013 build, we'll see if there's been any small improvements or if the noise pops up after I hit that "golden" number of miles driven

Though I'm glad I read this thread - makes the decision to get the extended warranty more palatable >.>

one month in... 1500mi... developed the chirping around 1.1k or so. definitely more pronounced after heavy driving it seems, and has definitely gotten louder since i first noticed it. definitely broke it in gently 99% of the time, i think i pushed it past 4k maybe 2 or 3 times in the first thousand, and mostly near the end.

Glad I found this thread. I have 1500 miles and have noticed it quite a bit. Tonight, my car even bogged pretty bad one time in 1st gear. I had a Speed 3 too, and don't remember chirping this loud, but ended up upgrading the pump. Anyways, saved the TSB, not gonna worry about it right now

Norwalk Toyota/Scion told me that they need my car to diagnose the actual sound and then they can order the part then a half day to work on it. They apparently have not had an issue there before of this matter and was not aware of such a TSB. Sadly, my cars VIN is out of the range for the TSB and they may possibly make an exception since it's the same issue.

I'm not sure if even replacing the pump with the same part number and components would even help. Also, a number of people have stated that despite the repair, the noise emerges from around 300 to 1k miles.

So now that I'm here at this situation with under 300 miles on my car, do I:

1. leave it the way it is?
2. change it out and keep my fingers crossed even though it'll most likely come back due to many other individuals stating this happening?
3. see this issue as justification to buy an ark grip exhaust which will be louder than the chirp. lol

I'm not a owner and I am trying to understand the severity of the situation. Will it cause something bad to happen to y'all engine if left untreated?

I'd take #1 . . . at least until they have a real fix instead of "replacing the pump with the same part number and components."

I completely agree with your decision. I don't see the point in taking it down, have them diagnose it for 2 hours so they say they need and then a half day without my car and possibly a loaner that I have to take in result of the problem coming back soon after. Thanks for the input!

No. It's a noise and nothing more. There is 0 evidence at this point that it will cause any harm to the engine, and both Toyota and Subaru have stated that it is harmless. I've had it on my car since 150 miles (Earlier than most, but I break in my motors hard, and this issue generally only presents after spirited driving. I'm at about 10k now) and I've have no issues at all.

However, just to clarify, this is not related in any way with the idle dip issue, which is something that people should be concerned about, as left unfixed has been hosing engines. The amount of people that admit to having a CEL, and then unplugging the battery to clear it instead of getting it fixed, absolutely astounds me. Then they get upset when their motors blow up.

Thanks man! I like that you were very thorough and differentiate the other issues.

Good post, as usual. But have we had that many engines blow up and do we know if the blow up was caused by the cel? Just wondering.

Yes, the sticky at the top of this subforum has all the compiled information. Link here for the lazy folks. Any further discussion should stay out of this thread, as it's completely unrelated to the chirping and there's already enough misinformation floating about.
