He says they've been holding classes for techs on the new motors, and their demo cars are all doing it. As of right now, it's a known "issue" and it's been logged that people are complaining about it. This is what he had to say about it.

"The issue has been classified as a normal noise to the Direct Injection high-pressure release valves when operating under normal conditions. It's intermittent in that the DI/PI systems work in tandem, and it will only generate noise when operating under specific circumstances which are most likely at engine idle. Every single car (Scion, Toyota, and Subaru) will emit this noise at some point in it's life. There is no current plan to investigate a fix unless enough people whine about it."

More or less a direct quote. Yes, he said whine.

They logged a report on the issue saying that I found the noise detrimental. Cars are noisy and I'm not gonna get my panties in a bunch over it, but FOR YOU GUYS I told him that I "didn't mind either way, but I guess I would prefer if it didn't make the noise."
Well that's just fantastic...way to go Subaru! Insects across the world unite!

Sigh...thanks for the update.

Yes my car has the chirping noise, its a bit embarrassing since it sounds like crap coming from a beautiful car, possibly the worst sound toyota/subaru could have made. People expect this car to sound as beautiful as it looks, not like a freaking TDI

p. s I just shut my car off asap so people aren't like wtf

Yes, I changed my oil. Started chirping coincidentally after that.

I just rev my engine with new intake and exhaust, and the cricket sound goes away and then sounds like a muscle car. People then people turn from a WTF face to a face.

Guess im one of the fortunate ones who doesnt have this issue. However, my other 2 friends that have the FR-S definitely have the chirping issue. One has over 1500 miles, the other around 500. Im right at 400 miles on mine and havent heard one chirp ::searches frantically for wood to knock on::

I cannot tell. My engine makes a little noise. If it has been running for a little while, it seems to have a slighlty louder idle noise

Bottom line:
Has anyone found this has created a major issue - engine cutoff, overheat, etc.

While my engine seems to make some very slight noise, it sure still seems to love being pushed and responding accordingly.

So basically they have turned there heads on this and deemed it as "normal".... So if that is true, than who are the people who should be worried... The chirp owners or the chirpless owners....

I'm not saying it has been ruled out, I'm just stating the heresay on the forums... Not every one is going to read through 6 pages of this crap for that

I honestly don't think it's an "issue"...like I said I think people are just weary over it because it's something most have never heard before. It's not like engines are dropping out or clutches are burning out the first 1k miles... It's more like just a "hey wtf is this noise, that's new"

Im at 1340 miles and I have yet to notice a chirp. Just took it for a pretty intense litle 8 mile drive on my break and when I came back I opened the hood and listened. Still no chirp.
