Can you specify which Lucas treatment you used?? There are a couple different ones being discussed in this thread. There is the ""Lucas fuel treatment, upper cylinder lubricant" that Seirra just mentioned, and there is also "Lucas Safeguard Ethanol Fuel Conditioner with Stabilizers", which I don't think anyone here has tried yet and reported back on.
Ya it's this stuff:
http://www.lucasoil.com/products/dis...catid=2&iid=26

Been using it for years in my Toyota 4x4 and the Hyundai Tiburon I traded in. As someone mentioned I guess it is "oil", but I was talking about people putting 2-stroke oil.. perhaps it's all the same I dunno

I'm confused! I have a perception that crickets and chirping are not the same sound? I perceive that crickets is, well, a cricket sound that may be synonymous with the normal sound of a high pressure fuel pump? I have not seen what kind of a high pressure fuel pump is used? This might help to clarify what type of sounds might be expected?

My perception is that the chirping is another sound in the background behind the cricket sound? Can someone clarify what we are listening for?

The sound that's been posted on this thread several times in video clips.
The sound that wasn't there when the car was picked up but 81% have now developed.

I come on this everyday if only to see if something has developed...I've done all I can, went to the dealer, called Scion and complained...I guess it's just a waiting game now.

On an odd note, I mentioned i felt deceived because the car didnt make the noise when i got it and the mailed me an arbitration form! WTF Toyota.

I got the crickets today at 440 miles. I knew what it was instantly. I'm going to bring it to the dealership so they get it documented and let me know when there's a fix. There's no ethanol free gas stations anywhere near me so doing that is out the question.

Its really odd for me, i use 94 and 91 and the chirp happens every once in a while, not always nor any correlation with the grades. I actualy dont hearvit often, maybe this is bc i got it about a month ago and they had changed something in the meantime

If you look up info on the sound a real cricket makes it is described and defined as a "chirp" or "chirping". Therefore when someone says "chirp", they should be referring to the cricket sound in the FR-S.

The other sound heard in all the engine videos is a chatter. Chatter is how I would describe the sound of a diesel, or the sound of direct injection from all the hundreds of videos I have now perused on YouTube.

Go here, page 3, find my post with 3 videos halfway down the page:
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showt...ket#post268009

Clearly audible illustrations of a real cricket for comparisons sake, a cricket in the FR-S, and an FR-S that doesn't make the sound many have tried in vain to convince us is a normal sound for DI, which is the OTHER sound in the 2nd and 3rd videos...which was why I posted the insect cricket video 1st, because apparently some don't know what a real cricket sounds like(city slickers I guess).

thanks for the clarification, yes I note the higher pitched chirping cricket sound on top of the DI chatter. That is what I thought we were talking about, but wanted to be sure as I sometimes have the impression that some consider the DI chatter to be unacceptable as well?

It would still be interesting to know what kind of pump is used to for the DI?

Apparently one that is specifically designed to sound like a cricket on cocaine! Sorry, I had to. I just cannot believe anyone would think a 21st century car company would accept this as a job well done.

Either they didn't have the sound due to the different gas(highly unlikely IMO, not the gas, the not hearing it part), or they whipped out a calculator and compared the cost of redesigning the pump versus the number of people that will bring it in for replacement. Isn't that how all companies work? Pharmaceuticals, Ford Pinto, electronics...whatever.

Just rolled over 315 miles on mine and the chirping just started. Still on the first tank of 91 put in at the dealer.
