Sounds like there are 2 different sounds going on one possibly "normal" while the high pitched "chirping" isn't. And the videos posted some complain about one or the other. I'm almost confused how to tell them apart and if it does requiring opening the hood to really listen to hear which is happening.
Jayde's video does a good job as well as the other's posted on the thread so far.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UK_4uZz-oQo"]BRZ Chirping - YouTube[/ame]

The ticking sound is pretty standard and nothing unusual it's relatively low frequency and a solid 'click' or 'tick' depending on what sound you associate with it.

The chirping is a much higher frequency sound and impossible to miss if you're under the hood. As most have said it literally sounds like a cricket, and I have to agree.

Thanks for the clarification!
Just didn't want to be misunderstanding.

The sewing machine sound! That's what old VW's sound like (stock)...and I agree, the chirping sounds a lot like that

If there's enough people complaining, I'm sure it'll be fixed.

If it's under warranty (which it is) and you show up enough times to the service desk asking wtf? Yes they'll eventually fix it...if they can figure it out...

so has anyone taken the car to the dealer for this noise?!
I would force them to fix it. I can't deal with any kind of abnormal noises on a car. Besides, this sounds like the beginning of something going wrong inside the engine.

Some one claimed that doing an oil change fixed it.
Some one claimed that the dealers did a little something with the engine and that fixed it.
Another claimed the dealers fixed it but a worse problem occurred and the car died.

^ will have to find these posts again >.<

Posted by NRGBalanced (Thanks again for this helpful post!):

The chirp at this point finally came into the earpieces of the stethoscope and was matched with the low-frequency tapping I had heard while touching the probe to the other metal parts in that area.
It sounds like the chirp is the result of the insulation and metal components in the DI pump area acting like a high-pass filter, so that we only hear the highest pitch of the tapping.

I am not a skilled diagnostician, so take this with a grain of salt. Maybe someone with better ears will go poke around in this specific area.

I've posted this on other threads but mine chirps. It's audible enough to hear in the car while idling.

I went to my dealer and after they were able to hear it they called Scion directly and Scion alerted them to what the problem was and that they were already aware of it. They special ordered $1000+ in parts and scheduled me for mid July for repair. Scion told them this is not a safety issue and should not get worse but it will be fixed.

Today, I got a call from the service manager at my Scion dealer. Toyota notified them that they want to be present during this repair and they are sending a Toyota rep and a regional technician to their dealership and rescheduled me for July 6th. He sounded quite surprised but explained they are being VERY serious about not just this repair but about ANY issues on the car at all.

It's supposed to be a one day job and I'll update when my car is returned and I can put some miles on it.

i just test drove an FR-s today. the car had 377 MILES ON IT!!
obviously the entire city test drove that car.
anyways the point is that as soon as I got out of the car
I heard the noise! the crickets, that's pretty annoying.

oh yeah and I wasn't impressed by the car at all.
I come from a integra GSR, 06 wrx, 370z and now GTI
and I felt like the car was a mix of those cars, torqueless and uninspiring
power like the GSR, steering and suspension like the 370z and seats like my GTI (probably better).

I'm sure the car is great at the track but I'll wait for the turbo version.

The Gti skews your view i think cuz its hella fun, but the FRS is WAY more fun than a 370z!!

And my car has 3000 (yes 3k) on it almost and chirps like a bird

Damn it. I voted no. However, now at near 1900 miles, it happened tonight on my Subaru BRZ 6AT Limited. Chirping so loud in my garage I can hear it in the cabin as well as outside of the car exactly where everyone else is having this issue (drivers side).
