It's only a stop gap solution until they fix the HPFP, if they ever do?
As for not being specified, have you read any of the turbo threads yet?
That would definitely void your drivetrain warranty but this? They couldn't find it if they knew what they were looking for.
I don't see why it should be acceptable for a new car to have a problem like this. There's no reason that anyone should be content with a stop gap fix when a permanent solution should be addressed - that can only happen by those who have the issue reporting it directly to the mfg.

Aftermarket parts have nothing to do with this. Those don't correct what is an OEM defect, they simply fulfill a desire at the expense of, in this case, voiding a warranty. Paying for a $1k exhaust or a $5k turbo kit and voiding the warranty is very different than voiding it via $0.50 of oil. It's a completely different train of thought than having Subaru/Scion fix the chirping.

It's not acceptable it's just a temporary solution until they fix it.
If you don't tell them you did it while you were waiting they wont have a clue and in the meantime it will sound like the new car you drove home.
Don't make a big deal out of something that's not. Not the noise, that is a big deal but the 2T isn't.

It's not a ticking either. I've had Nissan 4-bangers and been around them since I was 5. I know what ticking sounds like. This is not normal.

People don't come here to whine. This is a forum, people collaborate and share ideas. The whole section is called "Issues/Warranty/Recalls". If you don't have any issues, get the hell out of here.
I know this isnt a ticking its a squeek..... Ive had it since 4 miles when I got it new.... its sounds the same as on the mazda speed 3's and neary every other DI car.

Perhaps there's an issue with ethanol being used in HPFP's generally that needs to be addressed. Who wants their new car to sound like an old clonker? I certainly wouldn't put up with it.

It doesnt sound like an old clunker..... its just as loud as ticking fuel injection on other cars... and again this isnt the only vehicle that does it. Honestly the only time I can hear mine is if I am at a stop light with the windows down, with the radio off, with no one talking, sitting in dead silence.

For Christs sake why do people keep ignoring the fact that nobody in this thread is talking about any kind of ticking of any sort. In every video so far there have been TWO noises: ticking, which has been declared to be the normal DI sound, and the other noise sounds exactly, as in 100% identical to the insect commonly known as a cricket.

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojRj4DRI608"]Infamous Mazdaspeed 3 Ticking Noise - YouTube[/ame]

The above video does NOT contain insect sounds. Yet that video is representative of every DI equipped engine video I have listened to and watched over the last couple months. None of them have a cricket sound.

I think there are numerous people in this thread that have never heard a cricket before. Either that or they are just deaf. How such a high pitched squeal could be described as a ticking sound is beyond comprehension.

It's entirely possible that some people aren't hearing it. With age comes the loss of the ability to hear higher frequency sounds. Not trying to be witty or anything, just a possibility. I can sure as hell hear the cricket farm.

So, I've been having the chirping noise for the last 4000 miles, and it's pretty annoying.

I was down at Autozone the other day to pick up some other things, and bought some of this on a whim: http://www.stp.com/products/fuel-add...ctane-booster/

Added it with a full tank of 91 at Chevron, where I always fill up. An hour later the crickets were gone. Hot engine, cold starts, at night (65 degrees F) and during the day (95 degrees F). I heard it all the time before and now it's just... not there.

I am very excited, even if it means buying a 4.50USD bottle of this stuff every fill up. That noise was driving me to distraction, even if I still loved my car.

I don't see why this would make a difference. Let us know how it turns out.

Sounds about right, the DI system is probably being lubricated properly with this additive. There are a multitude of fuel-related solutions to the noise but I still wonder how Toyota and Subaru can justify the necessity for additives or hunting down special fuels these days. I'll be running ethanol free until we get a fix.

Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with any ethanol-free gas stations around Orange County, so this is my best option (if it continues to work).

I agree that this should not be required and will be reporting it to my service manager.

My car just starting doing this at 1500 miles. It's never had ethanol in it.

So, tell us. Where did you get that in this:

Helps

Restore lost performance
Remove deposits which cause knock and ping, hesitation and stumble
Increase octane level in fuel system

?

Well I haven't touched the stuff but I'm assuming it does help negate the effects of the terrible ethanol levels here. Considering that bottle is mostly kerosene anyway, there must be some lubrication effect quieting the noise. It's already been pretty well documented that even a little 2-cycle engine oil can help reduce the noise.

None of them are elegant solutions, which is why I'm still waiting for Scion/Subaru to take the cake on this and at least admit it or tell us whether they are working on something.
