Some of us don't want to
1) Put something into our car/fuel that isn't specified, even at 1000:1
2) Do extra work/spend more money every fillup to make it sound like a new car (which it is)
3) Accept that this is a normal noise (which it isn't, until Subaru/Toyota says so)

UPDATE:

Just got off the phone with Subaru of America. I was told that they are NOT monitoring forums, and that issues are only reported when a customer either brings their car into a dealer or calls directly. I can't speak for Toyota/Scion, but I would assume their policy is similar.

Therefore, for ANYONE who has or is currently experiencing this issue, PLEASE call Subaru Customer Service or Scion Customer Service and file a complaint of the issue.
This is the only way they'll become aware since they aren't actively monitoring these forums.

^^Of course they are not monitoring the forums.

Customer Service is Customer Service. No one is running around worrying about you and your car. They have a process in place to respond to customer complaints. That's all. So, as many have advised, if you have a complaint, start the inquiry (and perhaps remedy) process by calling the customer service number and visiting your dealer, and bringing the matter to someone's attention.

N.B. To all those who said that there would be no problems with a first model year car because Toyota had done soooo much research and development over the past many years blah blah blah, hope you learned something, to wit, there are always problems with first model year cars. That's the reality (not your wishful thinking).

That's not true. While they may not openly admit to it, every company monitors forums regarding their product. They may not monitor EVERY forum, but certainly the big ones.

Hell, Lotus was famous for asking people not to post certain things.

Just saying what I was told. Are they monitoring the forums? Probably, but in either case by far the best way to make SOA/Scion aware of this issue is to call and lodge a complaint and/or bring your car in.

I use fuel with ethanol. (sunoco and bp) I have done so since 0 miles. I now have 2300. The only squeak i have is when the ac kicks in. No crickets. Does this only affect a certain vin range?

Shouldn't.

I don't think its disputed anymore about whats causing it. Today I did a hard drive out to the coast, car was chirping like mad.. refilled at a ethonal free gas station and it was gone after 20miles.

Only 380 miles so far and filled up once with 91 (best octane we have around here unless I go way out of the way) at Shell. No chirping so far with or without the AC and hopefully it will stay that way.

Ran across some ethanol-free 91 octane CITGO gas today. Filled up (had <1/4 tank of some random 93 octane there). Didn't help. Chirped just like before (maybe a tad less loudly) on a few rare moments of idling over the next ~200 miles. The station could've lied, I suppose. Might get a chance to put in ethanol-free 94 octane in about two weeks.

Maybe it's just me, but I think it would it be meaningful if everyone posted the last four digits of their VIN in their sig or avatar. Just to keep track of where in the production history which problems seem to be occurring. Posting your VIN in your sig or avatar will be retroactive to all your previous posts (if I'm not mistaken).

Just a suggestion. :happy0180:

I am having random times where there's a slight chirp while accelerating/decelerating. Usually in 4th or 5th gear. It's somewhat faint but I can still recognize it.

The chirping engine noise gets loud when I drive the car for more than about 30 minutes.

It's getting annoying and i'll take it in to the dealer on Monday to complain about it.

So don't spend 50c to have it run quetly for 400miles for a few seconds of your time. Others do and don't bother coming back here because the problem has gone.
It's only a stop gap solution until they fix the HPFP, if they ever do?
As for not being specified, have you read any of the turbo threads yet?
That would definitely void your drivetrain warranty but this? They couldn't find it if they knew what they were looking for.
