They had not heard of this issue before, and after looking for a bulletin and finding none, said that it was not an issue. They took the car for a test drive and they told me that there was no problem, that this was normal. It was because the car has a high performance Subaru engine. The guy also told me that there was no high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay.

The experience was very negative, and the service rep was incredibly condescending. Stay away from taking your car in for service at Toyota downtown Vancouver.

They're idiots. Or at least not a very good dealership. I suggest you find another.

If they do, I would insist. A TBS affects all cars and is not related to mods. Not this TBS, anyway.

Was using exclusively Shell V-Power 91... decided to try again Petro-Canada (94 + Ethanol)... This was the result 50km after the fill up:

You can mark me as another victim of the cricket in the engine... Just hit over 2k today and I started to hear it when I pulled up at my friends house.

Been filling up w/ Shell 91 ever since I got the car.

Such a sad panda... Here's a video.

Voted YES.

I'm approaching very close to 1k miles on my FR-S, thus far.

The noise bothers me, but I'm not making a huge matter on it since I haven't encountered any major problem which stops me from driving this car.

I'll stay tuned to what Toyota / Subaru does about it, since many folks have been bringing this issue to attention.

All you need to do is take it into the dealer and report the problem then apply the easy fix until they get the solution. Then fill it up with E10 without the easy fix and it will be chirping again, ready for the modified HPFP and you can hopefully forget adding it any more, unless you've grown addicted to it.

Anyone who says that sound is "normal and acceptable" needs their effing head examined. A brand new car (regardless of price point) that makes a sound like that should be an embarrassment to both companies. I also found that using Shell V power (WITHOUT ethanol) stops the noise. However, the car does seem to run better (smoother) with the Ultra 94. When using the 94 fuel with ethanol, I have found that adding as little as 1-2 oz of clean burning 2-stroke oil to a full tank of gas will do the trick.
I love this little car, but that noise is unacceptable.

Dealer has mine. Having this issue + a wobbly pulley getting checked out. They called today saying they were replacing the pulley first since they thought that was the problem. This despite the fact that I told them ethanol free fuel stopped the noise.

Oh well. New pulley and they'll find out tomorrow that it still chirps.

If this is the tensioner pulley then we all have the same wobble.

Left side of the engine when you look at the car from the front?

Interesting. They're replacing it under warranty in either case.

That'd be the one.

Let's be clear, people. "Left" and "Right" on a car is determined in terms of your left and your right when you are sitting in the driver's seat.

If you are confused, look at the strut bars (shock tower braces) in the engine bay. One says R for right and one says L for left.

I noticed a chirp today almost at 2k miles. I was thinking it was a belt chirp though. Gonna investigate when I get home.
