So I could get 10% ethanol gas when under 70 and no problems but when the temperature rises above 70 that same gas will cause crickets. Like I said I can almost call to the minute when they will stop or start based on what gas I bought and how hot it is outside.
Yep thats been my experience
if i run 100% petrol no chirps
running low ethanol content like 10-40% get chirps, more pronounced in high ambient temps
run full E85 no chirps except very occasionally when rearly hot day after track session

You caught me before my edit lol. I meant 10 gal not 10 oz.

Well it's also been 85+ degrees every day so if it's temp related more so than gas related I guess it makes sense. Honestly people's results in this thread are so all over the place I have a feeling how much certain things help depends on what condition your HPFP is in. I kinda want to get mine replaced under warranty and start with the TC-W3 before the chirps even start to see if it's preventative maintenance.

Just before 1200 miles rolled on the odometer the crickets finally appeared in my new 2016 FR-S. I had done some research on common problems and complaints regarding the car before I purchased it, so I knew this was a possibility, but I never bothered to watch a video or anything to really get an idea of how obnoxious it might be.

Holy hell, it really does sound like a small flock/gaggle/herd of crickets in the engine bay! I almost died laughing when they first started. What an incredibly silly sound for an engine to make. Coupled with the rather agrarian/small tractor clatter it normally makes, this engine is like its own 'evening on the farm' soundtrack. In the list of best sounding engines, I would rank this FA20 decidedly near the bottom, and yet I find the racket to be so unique and odd for the engine bay of a sports car that I can't help but chuckle every time I hear it.

That being said, I have noticed that the crickets only come alive when I have filled up with Shell V-Power 91, but they have not made a peep the two times I filled up with Conoco 91. I'll keep switching between the two and see if the pattern continues.

Will

So, after burning a quarter of a tank that is 75% local neighborhood Chevron and 25% of that skeezy neighborhood 76, the crickets are gone. However, temperatures are down quite a bit. OTOH, I first noticed the crickets when it was cooler (in the morning) as well. I'll keep monitoring it during the warmer weather...

Still no chirping on my 2016 at 18000kms.
I've run every big brand 91 and Ultra 94 is what it normally gets.

Not hot enough out yet. Once you hit that sweet spot of ethanol and ambient temperature you will receive your free membership to the Cricket Club.

Maybe I've missed this after reading all these cricket posts but why hasn't a parts manufacturer designed a replacement that doesn't chirp?

If it's more expensive they wont. Maybe on the 2nd gen the pumps will be compatible with Ethanol. In the US we don't buy enough of these cars for a redesign. You can buy an ethanol compatible pump but it's quite expensive. It seems the cricket infestation is prevalent in the US and Brazil.

After getting crickets for a couple of days, they haven't come back. I thought I heard a little something at idle a few days ago but not real loud.

The only difference is that I got gas once at a Wawa station instead of my normal station across the street. I'm not sure if there's a link but I'll stick to either the Citgo or Shell like I always have.

WaWa Is the worst fuel you can put in any car. They don't put in as many detergents and the Octane listed on the pump is averaged.

Ah but is the ethanol level right as well. It is a combo not a single.
