Good idea, I'll do this when it's chirping loud again.

Apparently people are having better luck with the HPFP with the green dot on the box. If they are to fix this issue for 2014, I would bet they would have a revised HPFP by now hence the one with the green dot?

I just found my build date. I bought the car about 3 weeks ago but it was built in December. I really hope they fix it on Friday.

You know.....I have read the Service Bulletins from Scion and Suburu. What I have concluded after the nice explanation Suburu wrote up in their bulletin is that the problem is primarily heat. This High Pressure Fuel Pump is located right on the engine. The engine is quiet when it is just turned on and is cool. Once at or near operating temperature the chirping starts, but only when the engine is idle. Seems to me that perhaps the alcohol in the gas is evaporating concurrently as the fuel is moving through the pump. Hence, causing the chirping noise. When you rev the engine or drive the chirp nearly instantly stops. I feel that is because the fuel is still relatively cool and the alcohol did not evaporate. Yeah, I know it's a long shot of an idea or explanation, but it seems to make sense. I wonder if a heat shield can be installed somehow around the pump and pump mount to keep it father from the engine so that it does not heat up? Also, does alcohol free gas really help remove the chirp? I have to witness it first.

^ I believe so yes.

When I get shell v power (ethanol free here in Canada) I have no chirps, however, if I go for any other high octane fuel the chirps come back.

Seems legit. i remember having chirps then after hauling **** on the interstate and coming to a stop i had a moment of silence, but shortly the chirps came back.

My crickets are dying. I'm a little over 20k miles and have had the pump changed 3 times (before we all knew it wouldn't fix anything) and they have been really loud the last month now they are really quiet and much more random. I've tested it with the a/c on and off but they are definitely trying to go away. Not sure what brought this on I'll keep everyone updated on what happens, in the next few weeks

So we have to worried about the cricket and them we have to worried about the direct injector leaks that could cause engine failure?

No, and no.

People freak out when one thing happens to them and think everyone will have that problem.

Crickets don't harm anything, its simply an annoyance.

The DI issue is a one off. Several thousands do not have that issue.

Got my car a month ago built in sept 2013 as well, while sitting at a drive thru at Starbucks I heard the crickets chirping, normal or no?! It goes away and comes back sometimes. Does the dealer contact us or do we have to be a pain in their ass to fix it, of course it's still on them since it's still under warranty.
