I just bought my car a short while ago and I have near 300 miles on it and I noticed the chirping. When I start up the car there is no chirping. When the car is warmed up or driven a while it chirps when I am stopped or parked. However, it doesn't seem to chirp at all when I rev the engine or driving the car (I think). If this is not normal Toyota better get a fix soon! Even if it is normal Toyota better get a fix soon!

Mine has been chirping since 1,200 mi or so. I'm at 6,000 now and I've been using 93 E10 since it was new. I don't have any E0 where I live, but I was recently traveling and filled the nearly empty tank with 91 E0. Chirping was gone within a few mins and hasn't come back with the E0.

Yeah, it was built in September 2012. Why? Are the newer builds of this year not making this noise? After reading many of the complaints on this thread it seems that it makes no difference when the car was built.

Since you bought the car a short while ago and only has 300 miles, I thought it was built this year. I asked because the fuel pumps manufactured since some time in February 2013 are supposed be the newest design and we are hoping it doesn't have the chirping noise. I saw 3 members with them making noise though, and I thought you might be the 4th one.

I filled up with Chevron 93 octane with up to 10% ethanol for the first time and I had no crickets driving home from work. 93 degrees outside. I don't understand. They're so random and I am still on my original pump from November 2012.

I just got my car back from the dealership. Went for some spirited driving to warm the car up. No chirps to report. I'll update again once I put some more miles on it.

How can I check my build date? I'm calling them this morning. I know it may not bother some. However, I can't stand sitting at a red light knowing my car sounds like a beater.

Well, seems like even the later build dates include the chirp pump.
Wonder if the 2014 FR-S/BRZ will chirp as well? |

I originally voted "no" in this poll. My FR-S was an August build, I took delivery in October, and drove in cool weather. Now after extended driving in warmer weather the chirp is pretty obvious at engine idle. I run Shell V-power. Guess I'll have to wait for a sure-fire fix...

got a new fuel pump after work yesterday and did anyone notice a difference in driving? the new pump had my car feeling bit different when i hit the gas pedal after releasing the clutch. feels smoother and drives newer.
wonder if the fuel pump is a piece of shit and wears down over time causing it to chirp. try sticking to the same gas station you fuel up at, haven't received anything bad so far, my chirps were consistent and didnt get obnoxiously loud even after long cruises or high rpms.. |
