Mine just started. Can't mistake it; it sounds exactly like a cricket at idle. Oh, and I'm roughly at 1600 miles on mine.

Been following the issue since i got my fr-s and it started chirping after 5-600ish miles.
just registered and cant post but was wondering if you could add this to the thread for me.

Took my fr-s to the dealership, had a case number opened and this is what the technicians got from toyota:

"It is a normal issue at this time, it is the High pressure fuel pump with DI making the noise. Toyota is looking into this further to see what can be done with the noise".

According to the tech, if they replace the pump the noise will go away but will come back after a few hundred miles.

I wonder if our ethanol additive in our US fuel is causing issues with the fuel system.

hmmm... Looks like were going to have to solve this ourselves. Perhaps the people who have not experienced a chirp can report the following:

1. What type of gas are you using (octane, ethinal count, etc.)
2. Did you change your oil yet?
3. Date you received your your frs, brz, gt 86?
5. Current miles (most have done that already)

Maybe we can try to find some sort of pattern

I'm more worried about this terrible exhaust leak coming from the two round holes below my rear bumper. My car smells like its burning something...

Just got my car back from subaru. The regional tech rode with me and documented the tweet noise under driving condition. He said it could be related to the chirping at idle so he recommend focusing on fixing the chirping noise first. He also took the car in the garage and listen for the source of the chirping noise. He said the noise is coming from the direct injection high pressure fuel pump. He offered to order a new pump and see if that will fix the noise. I told him if it's the same pump he is replacing with I'd rather wait and see if there are any new development from corporate (maybe a new fuel pump design). He did say its a known issue and Toyota is taking the lead at finding a solution. If I hear anything new I will keep you guys posted.

Have you use a different brand of gas? The regional tech told me if I can go try different brand of gas to see if it makes any different.

I've been using Chevron 94, had my second fill up yesterday so I think that could have helped. Engine doesn't seem as noisy

after 1700 miles I finally got the chirping! I also noticed the rough idle again, I also had a rough start (took 3-4 seconds to start) and my traffic on the Nav still doesn't work lol.

Here's a video of what my car is doing. It only happens when the car has warmed-up sufficiently.
