Side Jobs

Do any of you guys have side jobs? I heard of people selling insurance or buying and flipping cars on craiglist to make cash. Anyone got experience with that? Or what would be some decent paying jobs for a college kid? Can't seem to land any internships .

Need money for RB kit plus turbo plus wheels. Hellaflush.

Just kidding, but I would seriously like to have a little extra spending money, my current grocery store job is meh.

this time of the year I bet part time jobs are every where to be had. I valeted cars once. that was some pretty good cash in my pocket. surely it'd be more profitable and better hours than retail.

Waiting on tables or bartending can pay VERY well if you work in a decent establishment. Handyman-type work (small carpentry or plumbing jobs) can pay well and the basics aren't tough to learn if you don't already have them under your belt. Are you a musician? Give lessons. Beginning piano and guitar teachers are always in demand.

Personally, I'd feel better and take more pride in doing something productive and helpful, along the lines of the jobs listed above, rather than flipping cars which, at least to me, implies translating your good fortune in finding an undervalued car into your customer's MISfortune in buying the car at an overvalued price just so you can make a profit. Who have you helped, besides yourself?

Disclosure: last February I had an AWFUL experience with an unscrupulous used car dealer. Long story, but after all the lies and borderline (and possibly truly) illegal stuff this guy pulled, costing me almost $10,000 in repairs (severely misrepresented the car and didn't make repairs he promised he would) and a suspended license (he had failed to file the registration paperwork, "lost" the title, blah blah.. so the NYSDMV suspended MY license because they thought I was driving my traded-in car w/out insurance, despite the fact that I didn't own it and had turned in the plates. HUGE clustermug). I couldn't use the lemon law because by the time I actually had the paperwork and registration, over 90 days had gone by. This guy is a registered dealership, not just a backyard dude. I'm tempted to name them; there's lots more, but I'll stop here.

Suffice it say, my respect for car-flippers is much, MUCH less than zero. Ask yourself, "is there anything I can do that will benefit other folks AND put some dough in my pocket?" You'll be happier, and so will the folks paying you. The minute making a buck becomes the primary goal, you've already lost a little of yourself.

OK.. so I gave a partly helpful answer followed by an un-asked-for sermon. Sorry about that, Chief...

I'm in the same boat as you bro... I currently have a full time job where I'm wayyyy underpaid for what I do. I'm making $13/hour while my co-worker who does the same exact job is making 70k a year... I was "promised" a full time position after a year of working there (currently a full-time temp) but it has been 19 months and still no dice. So, I've been looking elsewhere for employment. I landed a job at the local BevMo that I'll start once this semester of school is over as a part-time job along with my fulltime job. I have also been selling personal artwork on the side to help, as well as, finding anything in the house where I can sell it on craigslist or ebay, etc.

My best advice is;
Looking for another part-time job
Look around, find anything you might think would be valueable and try to sell it. (I sold a extra Nintendo 64 in working condition for $150 on ebay.)
If you're creative make something and sell it. Theres some websites such as; Cafepress, Etsy, etc.

I do have a side job, but I can't talk about it until after the statute of limitations expires.

Edit: It has nothing to do with car sales, Muse.

I'm a personal trainer by profession, but also do the gym attendant nonsense on weekends to fill in the gap if my clients are spread out. Also gives me a chance to meet new clients. I guess I could go back to trying to be a famous author too....

CAD jockey by day, and occasionally I'll take on a CAD job on the side. I've done a couple boats, but usually car parts.

unless you are good working on cars, and have the space to do it, flipping cars will almost always net you at a loss.

like others have said, pick up a bartending/server position, or work part time for any retail store during the holiday push. yeah it'll suck, but hey, its a bit more cash in your pocket.
