Eh - it's more about the inconvenience.

If the thief had the time and inclination they would've removed the other four nuts and just broken the stud off.

Thanks everyone for all the input. I realize that in the big scheme of things $160 isn't the end of the world, but it's just mega frustrating that this happened. Especially after coming off a 24 hour shift only to find out about this.

Might try a couple of the tips before deciding to throw in the towel and have a professional do it.

...and beers are always a great idea...

I would get this,
http://www.harborfreight.com/8-inch-...ers-39716.html
and then this,
http://www.autozone.com/greases-and-...st/515413_0_0/
you might need to grind down the tips of the pliers to make them thinner to get a grip on the nut.
cover the wheel with multiple layers of painters tape to minimize scratching to the wheel.
you could also use a cutting wheel on a dremel to cut a notch into the nut and knock the nut off with a hammer and chisel.
if that doesn't work and you still want to remove it yourself, get a good drill bit the size of the stud and drill straight in until the nut falls off. (like DJCarbine suggested)

well get a heavy duty socket that would fit over the damaged nut -
hammer it on and try to loosen it that way.
Or they sell one of those sockets designed to have better bite.

That's how I got my damaged wheel lock nut off once I damaged the lug nut key.

Lots of the advice here will result in damaged wheels. You need to buy a kit like this one:
http://www.princessauto.com/en/detai...et/A-p8320954e

It's just a set of tapered sockets which have a reverse thread on the inside. Pick the one that fits and give it a few smacks with a hammer, then remove. One thing to watch out for when choosing the socket is this: The taper and ID need to match the nut pretty closely, otherwise the socket may bottom out in the hole before it gets a good grip on the nut.

I find that a ratchet or breaker bar works best with these because you can feel if it's biting in.

Alternatively, a socket around a 18 or 19 will probably hammer on over it as well. This will probably ruin your socket, or at least damage it but should extract the nut. I've used this method to remove 4 wheel locks from my bmw after a garage over tightened them to 300+ ft lbs.

I can guarantee one of these two methods will work for you with no damage to your wheels if you can swing a hammer and not miss lol.

EDIT: PeterFRS beat me to it!

This is very true about almost everything unfortunately :/

But at least it's rare

My first idea is weld something on there to crank it off. Or just pay some one to fix it. Probably need to throw a die on that stud to fix the threading if not replace it

It sucks for sure, but at least your car wasn't on bricks and you could drive it home. Another plus with having wheel locks and lazy thieves.

It definitely could have been a lot worse. Guess the wheel locks were a good investment after all. I was skeptical at first since I never figured that anyone would want stock wheels. Good thing I got them. I'm just paranoid about getting a flat in the mean time.

Garage
Go to a well known family own garage shop. They'll do it for much less. Had one of my nut froze due to a bad tread. Had new stud replace plus new nut for only $80. $30 to remove $5 for stud bolt and lug nut. $45 to install stud.
