I think we are using different definitions of premium. You are talking about making it something like a Buick Verano, Acura ILX, etc... Semi-luxury pushing $30k. I'm talking about it being premium in that it offers way more for the money than a similarly priced hatch. For under $20k, you won't find a compact hatch this well equipped (maybe the Koreans). Most are just getting off steel wheels at $20k, for example. The iA is the same way with its auto braking system... on a car that costs $16k! Previously, Scions were pretty stripped out, particularly the xA, xBs, and xD.

I'm using the actual definition of the word premium. You have premium confused with value.

I'm not looking for a Buick, just hoping to match the equipment level of a Focus.
