Who cares? The 200 peak horsepower these cars make is pretty much perfect for an actual sports car. The real issue (which is nicely dealt with by forced induction) is the torque dip and general lack of torque. I'd be happy with just a few pounds of boost and a car that still ran reliably on 91 octane if it would get rid of the torque dip and give another 20 or so lb-ft of torque.

Okay, I've been watching this thread for a while, and I have to say this. The car could use more hp if all you're interested in is quick acceleration when flooring the throttle. I think, though, that concept is really flawed. I drove a Porsche 924 back in the 80s - yes I'm probably around T-coat's age. It developed peak hp and torque around 2500 RPM, and was very fun to drive. It had a top speed of a little over 120, had a 4-speed MT and by today's dollar cost roughly $40k USD. I looked it up. I think the problem a lot of people are perceiving with the 86 is more one of not knowing how to drive the car. The 86 is plenty fast if you understand how to shift. If you can learn to downshift smoothly, by actually learning to rev-match, this car can do just about anything quickly. I'll take a car that responds instantly to driver input and is this much fun to drive any day over something that is really fast only in a straight line for a mediocre driver who only knows how to use his right foot.

TBH, FI kits are pretty damn nice. A few of my friends have them. I just prefer fuel efficiency to the extra zoom-zoom.

Here's an article with an interview with Tada in October from news..com.au. Don't know if they are a real news source though. If it happens the complaining on here will be crazy. I can hear it now, "Why so small of a turbo", "We wanted more power from a "real" turbo not electric". lol

An electric turbo? That would make me instantly look to a different vehicle.

This "Interestingly though, he was very interested in the idea of fitting an electric turbocharger to the car." is not a quote from him anyway (and is very poor writing as well). If said at all it could have been more like: Alleged reporter - "What do you think of an electric SC?" Tada - "That is an interesting idea but there is no way we will do that" Alleged reporter writes "Tada says is an interesting idea" My imagined conversation holds just as much confirmed facts as the whole article.

I made the mistake of posting from motoring.au one time. Learn from others and just don't. Besides, an electric supercharger would be way better than a turbo.

I would not for one second, object to a factory electric supercharger (not sure turbo is the right term). The key word there being factory. If they can come up with something effective, light and reliable then who cares how it is powered? So far some of the aftermarket ones have proven that the method works and let's be totally realistic here they are never, ever going to turn this into a 300+hp car no matter how much people think it needs to be.
