You are going about this the wrong way. If you are concerned about ride height you should swap your springs, not your wheels.
From 215/45/17 to 235/40/18 you are gaining a 10mm or 0.4in increase in height, but spending 4-5x more than simply swapping to an Eibach pro-kit and gaining back the same amount, but with better shock travel. Not to mention 18 inch rims are heavy.

I don't get why you want to lower the car, then complain about the car scraping, then want to get taller tires to compensate for the lowering. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Lowering the car reduces the wheel gap as well as the ride height. I assume OP wants to know if larger diameter tires will allow raising the ride height back up a bit, without increasing wheel gap.

The answer is yes, at the expense of increased weight, less tire to body clearance, and decreasing acceleration.

I am wondering if installing 18" wheels raises the car .5 inch? Or in other words, does it raise the car up a little.

I don't want to scrape (DO NOT suggest me not to install lowering springs)

Thanks
You do not want to 'raise' your car with bigger wheels. Increasing overall diameter of your wheels + tires .5" will throw off your speedo, and probably your ABS system.

I'm not suggesting you not install lowering springs, but if you're worried about scraping you probably bought the *wrong* springs. There are lowering springs out there that lower your less - RCE might be a good candidate because I think they lower around .7". Then you have the others, swift, eibach pro, etc that lower around 1". Honestly I currently have Eibach Sportlines which lower about 1.2-1.3" and I have no problems with scraping (but ymmv).

p.s. - you're an engineering student?!

You my friend are smart. I do want to reduce the ugly wheel gap. I do know the overall of the car will be lowered and there will be around 3.5" clearance on the ground.

I know that 18" wheel will increase the ride height slightly, not noticeable and you confirmed it. Thank you.

murdoc understood my concerns, .. All the information you've given I know. Speed will change around 4-5 km/h which is not a problem. ABS does not get affect... And I can always pump the brakes.

1" and 1.3" does not make a difference in my eyes =p! Also the springs compression ratio seems to be stiff enough so if I go slow.. I am good. I think!

I think of changing my springs....but I just bought the tein s.. so I'm not willing to just buy new one

Yes, in Software not Mechanical ... Although I do a very good job in mechanical.

Ah, so you can gain millimetres of clearance. Makes tons of sense to spend 3-600 on springs to get rid of whee gap, then spend 1-2k on tires to raise it by millimetres. Why not have just got springs that lower less?

Because OP is a genius and already bought the springs before making this thread.

Idk what to tell you, the answers are all obvious if you do research, some people just forget that that usually comes before buying.

Okay soooooo, I decided to go yolo.... LOL! Yes I do change my opinions. I will install the springs. However, will I rub against my fender with the Tein-S Springs?? I have bumpy roads... and I am setting up 18x9.0 wheels!?
