yes you need to have a membership card. I just use my dad's card though since he can just use his costco credit card.

not planning on running lower than 94 if possible but Costco station would've been nice on those financially tight weeks

I don't know if this has been said, don't feel like reading every post.

But all states and countries have to abide by STRICT gas laws and regulations. Has to be x amount of this, x amount of that and it goes through strict testing before it goes out to us. So in essence, your "cheap gas" like Arco and what not still meet state regulations, and the reason Chevron, etc are more expensive is because of the "additives" they add to their gas. Hence the "Chevron with Techron."

TLDR; there is no "bad gas." Costco gas is perfectly fine.

Family does have a card but they live outside of town , I live alone so I don't need a metric ton of anything really so I wouldn't just get one for gas

+1 for Costco. 99.5% of my fill-ups have been from Costco over the past 2 years now...no issues whatsoever.

Plus the one I go to is right next to Home Depot, Pecker Boys, PetSmart, BK, a Dollar store and less than a block away...a Tiddy bar! What more do you need?

Negative to both. It takes me 3 minutes to fill up due to me triple checking if the gas cap is fully tightened (and I like the clicking noise...lol)

by no means is this a troll comment...but when i first read the title, my first thought was the food from Costco and Sam's that's giving you gas and was curious why you post under the FRS thread and not the misc. thread. I guess my mind is somewhere else today

You're right, it has changed since the last time I read it, but the minimum is now 9% and the max is now 11%. See below.

The Top Tier website:

http://www.toptiergas.com/deposit-control/

Quote:
4.3.1.2 Base Fuel. The base fuel shall conform to ASTM D 4814 and shall contain commercial fuel grade ethanol conforming to ASTM D 4806. All gasoline blend stocks used to formulate the base fuel shall be representative of normal U.S. refinery operations and shall be derived from conversion units downstream of distillation. Butanes and pentanes are allowed for vapor pressure adjustment. The use of chemical streams is prohibited. The base fuel shall have the following specific properties after the addition of ethanol:

Contain nominally 10.0% ± 1% by volume ethanol as measured by ASTM D 4815 or D 5845.

Contain no less than 8 volume percent olefins as measured by ASTM D 1319 or D 6729.
Contain no less than 28 volume percent aromatics as measured by ASTM D 1319 or D 6729.
Contain no more than 80 mg/kg sulfur as measured by ASTM D 2622 or D 5453.
Produce a 90% evaporated distillation temperature no less than 290°F as measured by ASTM D86.
Produce IVD no less than 500 mg averaged over all intake valves.
A Certificate of Analysis showing both the detailed test fuel composition results and source should accompany the additive results package. This certificate should also contain the unwashed and washed gum level of the base fuel according to ASTM D381.
The part that says "10.0% ± 1% by volume ethanol" means it has to have between 9% and 11% ethanol. I think the exception noted earlier has to do with making a loophole for situations where the ethanol is not available for some reason. For example, if we had an ethanol shortage, the top tier fuel marketers wouldn't suddenly lose their top tier certification just because they were selling gas with a lower percentage ethanol.

FYI, here's a thread on BITOG that quotes the prior standard I referred to earlier.
