They don't have to change the exits from the muffler, they just go "out" to the OE exhaust exits instead of "in" to join into a center exit, but that's just me speculating.

But I think you're totally right, it will be different, sound is a funny thing. Most people probably won't be able to tell the difference and the center exit is super cool, especially if you modify the bumper to make it look intentional.

Don't know why I didn't think of that. I was about to go back and edit it to hypothesize that a single exit would be the exhaust going either left or right which could keep the cancellation effects in play.
