Since the CEO resigned, I wonder if the design of VW cars will change.

Doubtful. I bet the CEOs sometimes don't even have a clue what models they make. They are numbers guys and leave everything else up to their underlings.

VW needs better lawyers/advisors.

They should have been in full denial mode until an actual smoking gun (email, etc) that showed the guys writing the S/W for the ECU were instructed to fudge the S/W to make the emissions pass just for EPA tests. All VW needed to keep claiming was that the behaviour was an "honest" programming error and that they would address it ASAP. No harm, no foul.

The "honest" mistake argument would be that under "steady driving conditions" we programmed the ECU to have the best possible emissions. What's that you say, SDC happen to correspond to the EPA test environment? Wow, what a coincidence!

A CEO who doesn't know what models they make would be a terrible CEO. While that's possible, it's also terribly unlikely.

Do you realize that this VWgate may be a direct result of more people demanding more? Giants like VW always gotta be ahead of their game to stay where they are. Staying ahead of the rest means their R&D department needs to be on overclocking on renovations. Legit renovation means more cost, more cost means less profit for the investors. Mad investors means bad business. What's another way around it? Cheat and hope that nobody will ever find out.

Ya it was an exaggeration to make a point. The CEOs of any large company rarely have a clue about the day to day operations. They don't need to since that isn't their job.

That doesn't change the fact that as long as we have fossil fuels, the earth can easily handle more than 10 billion people. When oil runs out, things will be harder. We'll actually have to start recycling some of our waste or capturing carbon we spewed into the atmosphere. That is more than decades away, though. Modern farming produces incredibly large quantities of food.

Besides, I have Bambi right outside my window, just waiting to get eaten.

VW tried to make a system that works without urea injection. Oops!

OUCH.

http://finance.yahoo.com/news/audi-p...123513621.html

Quote:
Volkswagen will dismiss the R&D chiefs of Audi and Porsche and its top manager in the United States where the carmaker has been found manipulating diesel emission rules, a senior source said on Thursday.

Audi R&D boss Ulrich Hackenberg, Porsche's Wolfgang Hatz and VW's U.S. chief executive Michael Horn will be dismissed at a meeting of the supervisory board on Friday, the source said.

Germany's Bild newspaper earlier on Thursday reported the dismissals of Hackenberg and Hatz.

VW, Audi and Porsche all declined comment.

All of the above will be moot when Lockheed starts selling the fusion sources they announced already.
http://www.lockheedmartin.com/us/pro...ct-fusion.html

I believe it is based on the Farnsworth fusor tech.
Here is a lecture by Dr. Bussard explaining the physics behind it:

Disruptive technology like the world has never seen.

Once "essentially free energy" is available it will change the world in ways we haven't even thought of yet.
How about self powering atmospheric water condensors or desalination plants that make pure water while filtering DT out of the water to fuel itself.
There could suddenly be fresh water in places that there wasn't before.

Deuterium mining will be the next biggest thing.
