Secondly, not sure what your driving habits are like, or if you race or whatever, but if you are judging a car based on "the way a Subaru takes a hit," outside of the crash test rating, then you are doing it wrong. |

I am judging it on what I see on a daily basis at my shop, I have never been a fan of the way Subaru's take hits. They just don't seem to be the same quality as other car manufacturers, you can usually grab ahold of them and pull the radiator supports and rear body panels around. |

Hey guys just an update, the car is totaled.
I'm currently waiting how much the insurance is gonna give me for the car's market value. I don't have gap insurance so I'm really hoping that they give me a good amount. Now I'm deciding whether I should buy another car with that check or just pay off the loan.. |

I think it'll be claimed as a total regardless,
Once the airbags go off, 99 percent of the time, insurance companies will claim it total...like someone mentioned cost of replacement is just too high for them to deal with. Glad you are okay though, a car is just a car at the end of the day, your life is what matters. |

Bent A pillars=instant totaled. Be careful as an unscrupulous body shop can "fix it" then clean the salvage title across state lines and sell it to an unsuspecting victim.

If the insurance company totals the car then they own it. All of it. You can't be pulling parts off it as that is now theft. Now in some places you can buy it back from them but of course it may be tough recouping that cost.

True. But if he has the original parts like the tails and headlights (one's not broken), just swap at junkyard or wherever car is (collision storage place).

If they will let him then sure. If it has made it to the junk yard though they are not likely to since they will know what has the most profit in it for them.

it really depends what is intact. If the engine and tranny are good, and most of the interior is good, it might be worth taking the car from them and letting the insurance deduct the grand or so they want for keeping the car. Then just part the crap out of everything that is intact and you should easily be able to make up the difference and much more.
Unless the engine and tranny are cooked, then it is probably not worth it. |
