Several reasons. 1. I now know what I should & shouldn't do when modding a car; i.e. useless mods; i.e. Perrin crank pulley, TRD quick shifter, ect. 2. I have spent a shit-load of money retrofitting my base FRS to look like an 86 Aero model and would like to start fresh. 3. I really like the yellow look lol

Haha oh man I feel ya. I feel like we all go through this... we love our cars until we don't and then we endeavor (endlessly) to improve them. Plus the newness factor is always a thing.

Just wait... if you go down this route you'll be engulfed by the bullshit that is JDM and STi lol! Welcome to the club.

My thing is I need a new bumper since mine is in horrible shape (cuz like a dumbass I never got a clear bra when I first got the car) so I've contemplated a 2017 retrofit.

I never put a clear bra on either, and now I really wish I did! haha.

And yeah, it's not that I dislike my car, but I would like to update it! Though I'm beginning to hate having lowering springs coupled with 18" wheels. Talk about stiff ride.

Sounds like we're in the exact same spot! My springs look good, but like you... the ride suffers.

It is what it is tho... You learn and move forward. Learning just happens to be expensive in this hobby haha.

So late next year, I'm gonna probably build my engine. With that 10% smaller pulley, would dropping the compression ratio to 10:1 or 10.5:1 reduce performance or complement it?

with the 10% smaller pulley I wouldn't drop the ratio as this gives 1.6Bar of manifold pressure, not enough on its own to justify dropping the compression

the rods are the weak point
I'm working on a new pulley arrangement to get the charger speed up and so it makes 1.9bar of manifold pressure

Thanks for the info, Matt! I know the wheel spins slowly there at Cosworth, but any idea on the ETA for that pulley arrangement for the 1.9 bar of boost? And would it be possible to build the engine, but keep the stock pistons? Or find a forged version of the 12.5:1 ratio?

Matt has said else where that their rods have the tapered top to mate to the stock piston so I would assume so.

I am hoping SEMA will have some nice cosworth goodies....

You can get the stock compression ratio pistons from JE Pistons. Just takes a little bit longer as I don't think they keep them stocked. You may be able to get them made from others as well.

the thing is I'd say the stock piston is a well made part so if you're keeping the stock ratio then its not a bad choice
