Haha I hear you on the do it once and do it right thing. Thats why I only buy quality parts (atleast try to, some just don't live up to my expectation) the only thing left on my list are the real expensive ones. BBK and FI but honestly I am happy with the car NA. Recently I have enjoyed it more and more they way it is instead of wanting more power. Yeah power would be nice but I spent so much already and don't want to risk breaking things and the car becoming a never ending money pit.

I dunno, man. I hear that from time to time. But, which brand new Porsche model can you buy for $50k that you'd be totally satisfied with? If i bought a base-model Cayman, i'd have to dump money into it as well to make it what i wanted. It'd pretty much add up to what a Cayman S costs, so why not just get a Cayman S? Hold on, there are so many cool options to add - dang it. We're now at GTS price. After adding other options, we're at GT4 price. Slippery slope, man. Nope, for $50k I couldn't have bought a Porsche I would be satisfied with. For about $100K, yeah. And I still wouldn't have a pseudo back seat to put my son's child safety seat in

I bought my BRZ knowing that i would mod it. No other brand new car is available for $50k that matches what I was looking for. Also, none of them look like a BRZ.

Idk man you can get a 2014 Cayman S for 40k sure it's slightly used but it's practically new. And you have 10k for mods leftover

Cmon guys, sure you could buy a Porsche for the price of 50k. But that Porsche doesn't deliver the very characteristic that sets the BRZ apart from every other vehicle on the market. Those wonderful, forever faithful, crickets.

I'd buy used of course. I would have bought a used 86 but I didn't want to wait two years driving my 25 year old pickup truck for the values to drop far enough for it to be worth it.

Lots of amazing cars at the <$40k price point on the used market, Lotus, Porsches, M's, supercars of decades past, memecars, hell full racecars with a trailer and tow vehicle. And if you have the space, well you can build a helluva weekend/racecar out of a miata or other cheap sporty cars and DD something that'll still rock your socks on a commute and backroad or autox/hpde while the weekend car is awaiting repairs or parts. I'd probably do that route looking back cheaper beater to make unstreetable, maybe lemons car or budget spec miata and sporty DD, maybe an old M car, maybe a classic project car idk.

No argument if your budget is <$50k, new, moderate practicality in a do it all car with a handling focus not much competes with an 86 and you'll have a nice chunk of change for going faster. I just didn't set out to spend that level of money on a car.

most are hovering around $60k that i found:
http://www.cargurus.com/Cars/l-Used-...ayman-S-t49298

still doesn't give me the back seat i needed. basically, nothing on the market at the time fit my criteria. if there had been a $35k factory turbo STI version, i'd have bought it.

Just did a quick add and I am just over $3K US.

That total is dominated by two things, OFT+OFH and new wheels (Enkei PF01). All of the other things are small.

Note that I'm not counting consumables like tires, brake pads, and the frequent oil changes.

i'd have to go up in mileage or back in model year more than i'd be willing to. finding a car at that price is not the issue. finding a car at that price that meets what you want is the issue.

pretty much the only reason I didn't get a Cayman is I like the 14-15' bodies so much more. it'll probably be my next car aside from a project of some sorts.
