I started by reading the manga. It went out of the norm of happy good guys prevail to, post apocalyptic giants that look like people killing all the good guys. I enjoy it, i grew up reading naruto bleach where it felt rated pg13. Needed something out of the norm. Of course i read and watch dragon ball-dbz and the 13 movies at the time, but that was before i was an anime fan and more of a dbz fan.

I'm no anime expert, so I could be wrong, but that just seems to be the norm of that genre. It doesn't seem to be as 'happy' as the rest, good guys prevailing over evil in the traditional sense, but I still think it fits the genre (the name of which is escaping me). I've watched a lot of Naruto, Bleach, and DBZ in the past. They all follow that timeline you mentioned. 5 minutes of exciting stuff at the beginning, then a bunch of talking and such for most of the middle, and then exciting ending so you have to watch the next episode.

The name of the genre is Shounen. Means basically "boy".

I think you guys both summed it up for me. I never liked Naruto or Bleach and I grew up with DBZ so who knows what I would think of it now. But it definitely strikes me as a grown up version of those three animes.

Despite my tastes all of those shows have a huge following and the fact that they are already working on a live action movie of AoT means it obviously has a ton of momentum already.

I can't stand traditional Shounen shows, yet I love Attack on Titan...because it's not a typical/traditional Shounen show. I'm more of a serious or comedy anime viewer.... from Ergo Proxy, Ghost in the Shell SAC, Flag, 5cm/s, Jin-Roh, Casshern Sins, Yukikaze, to Cowboy Bebop, Redline, Ramen Fighter Miki, Dai-guard, Trigun, Patlabor, and You're Under Arrest. Though the middle of AoT was a little slowly paced and the ending somewhat disappointing, overall I still love it. Most enjoyable watch in a LOOONG time...

I keep seeing references for this show around the internet lately and I think I might actually start watching this anime.

So here's to Attack on Titan living up to the hype... if there is any.

Finished up Darker Than Black, loved it. Re-watching Gurren Lagann and Black Lagoon until the final OVA for Gundam UC airs.

Not like anyone cares, but I'm on episode 13 or 14 on Attack on Titan.

I thought the beginning was too rushed and not enough character build. The whole plot is interesting so I kept watching to see if things would get better and it does, but it takes a while, imo. So far so good. Basically a little rough in the beginning, but progressively get better.

You're in the lull before the storm man....things are about to get crazy. I thought he first 8 episodes were the best I've ever seen an anime start off with then it lulled and lost momentum in the middle, dragging out a little too long. But then the last half came and was just crazy all the way to the end... in a really good way! Keep in mind I saw Attack on Titan as it was simulcast...I'm sure marathoning it will make the middle section not seem to drag out as much...

I have started watching "pupa" On crunchyroll and even though it is one of those really short episodes anime, it has a very dark and interesting story.
