Read first post. Answer. The way of the forum. There are still people that believe I went to a Charger.

With that low mileage, I would buy it out. You already know how the car is and how well taken car of it is. And no idea who said this car would only be worth 5 grand in a few years....unless you have 200,000KM then okay.

These cars will always hold there value well as many sports cars because they are a niche, especially the manuals and there will always be a demand for them especially from the tuner scene because they car is more affordable then lets say a STI for many buyers. Also, many buy these cars as second cars so it's why they are popular because they are not 50,000 cars.

In a few years they will become more and more rare because you have to look at sales of new ones. They keep decreasing, especially in Canada so we are having less and less new FRS.BRZ coming into the market each month and sooner or later they will kill it off.

The sooner they kill it off the better for value. I said earlier in the thread they are holding value well in my area because there were very few to start with. The value drops a little bit as you go north but they are still up there. My only fear is that they will do a refresh that meets many people's hopes and dreams and a pile of the older ones get dumped on the used market all at once. This would make the value go for a shit fast (although there will certainly still be some demand for the original "pure" version).

I'll probably be in the same situation when my lease is up. I averaged 6000 miles a year so I'm anticipating ~20,000 miles when my lease is up, that's 16k less than the dealer estimated, meaning the car will be worth well above the residual value they calculated.

I'm 100% buying the car out. Whether I sell it to car max or private sale is a different question. My car is heavily modded, but everything is still easily reversible.

So true.
However i doubt they would. The Japanese are very....one sighted? I don't know how to say this properly, but if they have a passion for something they will keep doing it no mater what others say or do.

I think the FRS/BRZ will always stay NA because this car is an evolution of the AE86.

Plus, if they truly are planning to make a supra again, i don't think they want to have cars compete in there own lineup. Same reason why Subaru didn't turbo the BRZ because of the wrx.

This is, a back to basics sports car for that niche group of buyers.

Agree 100% on all points. I was just throwing a "what if" out there.

OHHHH dude I could rock that job! All day scouring forums for "insider" info. Just making up random shit and wording it right to look real but noncommittal. Finding computer rendered pics of cars that don't exist that were done by engineering students and pass them off as "official". Never, ever, have to be accountable or respond to people's comments.
Shit, where do I sign up? That is my dream job.

Sales tax rates are different everywhere, but I know if I bought mine out of the lease, I would probably be charged about $1,800 in sales tax. To turn around and sell it privately would be a bad idea - that's a big cut right at the top.
So if I buy it, I should want to keep it for a long time.

Indeed! Sales tax is around the same for me!

Here's the thing though, it's been 3 years and I still haven't seen any other car that I'd want more than the FRS/BRZ (tbh I like the look of FRS way better than the BRZ, no offence to BRZ owners)

MAYBE I'd be happy with the nissan 370z, but that would only be because of the amazing interior. I don't care for the HP at all. =/

So the way I see it is, I'd probably keep switching in and out FRS models if I keep leasing. Long run..that looks pretty stupid, no?

So here's my question..what if...to keep things "FRESH" for me... I mod my car..custom colour wraps etc etc. Better use of my money..and I get to drive a car that I love+OWN and not having to "rent" it.

That is really up to you. Leasing is how BMW keeps making monster sales, they lease cars for insanely low money, and it makes them look great. If you really don't care about modding the car at all, and don't mind spending the money, then might as well keep leasing.

For me, it just costs too much. Outside of the business class set, leasing is usually a losing proposition especially if you are an enthusiast. Now some people are ok with that, and would prefer to have a brand new car with a full warranty and are ok with the additional costs that brings.

It really is a very personal choice.

I do not know about Canada but in the USA the buyout amount is the maximum amount they must sell it to you for. You can offer to buy it from them for less.

One strategy is to tell them you are either going to buy it out or buy a new one. If you can't reach a deal on a buyout with them then you will have to shop elsewhere for your new one.
