Wasn't aimed at you there Mav just an overall statement. You nailed the guy's summary way back in the thread.
Should have heard him laugh (at least I think it was a laugh) when I mentioned your comment on them just molding it the same as stock. I believe his word for that was "insanity".
Now we wait and see how many "but I had one and..." or "we sell these and they are fine" comments show up.

So as far as venting the stock hood goes. Not all methods are equal.

A louver press is probably ok so long as you don't touch the internal structure, but the larger add-in vents, like the ones from Runcool are probably no bueno because they would require some of the internal structure to be cut and they probably don't crumple into themselves, correct?

Correct.
Now you could probably just remove the sheet metal and leave the ribs but that will probably block so much of the vent as to make it a waste of time.

From the video that @Tcoat posted, I'm surprised how much the crash test dummy's body moves forward in spite of having a seatbelt on.

Can't say what test I was there to see today was (not being pompous I really can't say) but believe me there are seatbelts that don't let you move an inch.

In a crash there can be 4,000+ pounds of pressure on that belt so ya there is some movement. Just picture what happens without it!

even more surprising that it was only a 35mph test. Did I read it correctly? That seems like nothing...

Thanks very much, @Tcoat. I remember the first time discovering a couple big thick hooks sticking up behind the hood hinges on a vehicle and realizing "Oh yeah, don't want that thing punching through the windshield."

This is great! These are the invisible miracles of modern engineering. Cheap, simple, elegant.

At 5 miles an hour the stopping distance in a collision is about 1 foot. Think of a time you had to panic stop (everybody has) in maybe 20 or 30 feet and consider how much you were forced forward. Now imagine the forces involved when you stop in 1 foot.
Yep you read it right.
