Yeah, that's a bummer too. But the normal seats are actually still very good. BMW knows how to make great seats.

But you gotta remember that the M3 starts at 66k. This starts at 51k. There's a reason there's a $15,000 difference between the two in price.

Yeah thats true. Are carbon ceramics also an option at 8k?

As far as I know right now, they will not be an available option for the M2.

Also, while the M3 doesn't really come with much in terms of options aside from nav, the M2 basically comes standard as a pretty loaded 2 series. It's definitely great value for the money, especially when you consider the fact that buying an M235i and adding Nav, rear camera, and heated seats will cost like 53k...and the car still has an open diff. Adding an LSD to the M235i is a $3,000 optional extra, so at that point, you're talking nearly 60k, which is just supid.

I honestly think BMW is trying to play it safe like Porsche did to the GT4. I think they're purposely holding it back a bit to keep it from being to close to the M3 and cutting into those sales.

Have to agree on that. Just like Porsche wanted to protect 911 sales. People that want an m4 will still get one this way. They won't really cross shop them I think.

86 is more spacious, you can probably fit smaller people back there no problem. 2 Series? Good luck fitting anyone without cutting their legs. What practical mean to you? M2 will be less practical whatever practical definition you have. Last 2 are facts.
I seriously doubt the 86 is more spacious. We've got a 135-- it's got WAY more leg- and headroom than the 86, and the 2-series is an even larger car than the 1-series. I'm sure the BMW will be significantly more comfortable for backseaters than the 86. The BRZ has zero legroom and your head hits the rear glass all the time unless you're literally Tyrion Lannister... I'm like 5'6" and my head bumps the glass.

To me practical means flexible: the 135 can swallow a mountain bike through it's trunk opening with the rear seats down, can be enjoyed by one person in the canyons on weekends, can carry four people relatively comfortably (enough that doing a ~5-6 hour drive in the backseat isn't hell), is effortless to drive in everyday traffic (tons of power and torque from 1500 rpm up), etc, etc.

The BRZ is great in that it's a fun car that isn't expensive and ~can~ do daily driving stuff as well, but it's definitely less practical than the 1-series (and the 2-series is basically the same as the 1-series): you can't put people in the backseats of the BRZ for anything but a quick run down the road, it's more annoying to drive in traffic (no torque available-- gotta row the gears a lot and no matter what gear you're in the car still feels too slow to muscle your way through traffic), it feels like you've piled a dead elephant into the back of the car every time you put more than one person in it (the power is fine for a single occupant, but load the BRZ with another couple of people and it feels really sluggish, like flying an aircraft near max gross weight), the cabin is louder... I could go on and on.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not trying to rag on the 86, but it's just not as flexible as the M2 is going to be. It's also half the price of an M2. I still think the 86 is un-matched at this price point for a car that fills a similar role to the M2 (something you buy because you love driving, but that's practical enough that it isn't restricted to being a weekend car).

I'm sorry, but if you didn't read Game of Thrones books at least a decade before the TV show was made, you're not allowed to make references.

You're 5'6"? Making a little people joke is seriously living in a glass house.

You're right. 86 backseat is smaller, but not much smaller. Neither will fit average sized people. I'm an Asian, I don't fit at the back of either cars. I'm not saying you're small, but most people wouldn't fit in either.

I forgot to correct myself about back seat. I don't care if you shit on 86, I don't own one, no hard feeling. I just have to say what practical means to you. gas thirsting twin turbo I6, or NA H4? 2700lb or 3500lb? Sound dampening means practical to you? I don't know, entirely subjective.

To me the M2 imo is going to be an all things to all men type of car. It's just going to be a fantastic all rounder where the 86 does some things a lot better than others..

I bought the 86 thinking I would be happy with that but I was wrong and want more daily comfort, quicker, still good handling and think the M2 will fit the bill

Jokes aside, I don't know but to me the car seems boring. Just look at that poor guy's face. Not even a hint of excitement. I've been watching the reviews and noone seems particularly excited after the road tests either...? Just the usual hype train before the "real" reviews come out and then listing the tech/gadgetry that will probably fail sooner than later.
LOL

Asking friends that drive trucks and muscle cars?

Using a driving actor's face to gauge how fun-to-drive a car will be?

No one seems excited about this car?

There are multiple reviews (C&D, MT, EVO) that are saying this car is a complete blast to drive. Some even preferring it to the M4.

"U mad bro?"

I believe that's the appropriate internet response.

So the aspect of the car that your muscle car friends could mostly joke about was the most subjective part of any car? That's pretty weak.

Edit: muscle car guys like to bash anything foreign.
