It specifically says the substitute components. A non-existent airbag is not a substitute component therefore it's stating that the parts that do replace the steering wheel cannot be lighter than their counterparts.

Comment: This would allow cars with airbag equipped steering wheels to replace them, provided the weight remains at
least the same as the standard parts. The SEB feels that this will not make a steering wheel replacement a “must have”
preparation item and therefore competitors that wish to retain their airbag functionality may do so with no performance
penalty

This seems to make it pretty clear the spirit of the rule is to not allow a weight loss.

IMO you're torturing it, but I'm not going to argue with you as it's not an actual rule anyway.

Eh, I feel like blowing up a thread.

I've already watched a completely different race scene boil over when a new tire popped on the scene and blew everything else out of the water, if the tire fits the spirit of the class then it's fine.

The idea of the street tire rule is that a casual Autocrosser only needs one set of tires to be competitive for a season, ideally 2 seasons before the tire gets tossed in the bin, this seems to have been true for the Direzza's, RE11, RS3 etc. that were popular as of the beginning of this year (Maybe I'm wrong on that point, I won't mind being corrected but I've seen more than one claim of still getting decent times out of a set with 100+ runs on it). Of course someone very competitive will always change more often to get that extra couple hundredths of a second but the guy on the budget can make a set work for the majority of the season.

I'm not close enough to the scene to know how they are holding up but I've seen more than one post with tires wrecked after less than 30 runs, I know a guy who said his were gone in 2 months (heavy car, but not irrelevant), if that is truly the case then why bother running a street class tire if you're not saving money? That hurts the class, it prices people out of competition and the guys who can afford it will start saying "Might as well go buy slicks if I'm not saving money in the street tire class" and now you've got divided fields and a weaker, less competitive scene.

If the life is adequate for the tire, if you can run it and be within a tenth or two or three at event #8 just like you were at event #1 then by all means, keep the tire on the scene, there is no reason to outlaw it because Bridgestone figured out a better compound than anyone else. But if it is driving costs up then there is a problem.

We have some local folks up here still in top 10% pax on bridgestones with over 200 on them. Those "trashed after one Tour/Pro" are more the exception than the rule.

But the "re71r and autocross integrity" letter is all the info we get out of that system. There are times when it would be nice to see the whole letter. Is it because the requestor couldn't get their hands on any? Maybe not in their preferred size? Flipping out over the few early ones that didn't have sidewall markings? Bought a set of a less-competitive choice early-on and is just getting beat? Someone whose helmet is actually a tin foil hat (conspiracy!!)? Just trolling?

Glad RSX-S is out of STF, total over dog car.
It's only an overdog because of increased performance of new tires specific to it. Nothing to do with an alien from San Diego slaughtering the class with one. He fully expected it to get bumped going in.

The power/weight ratio combined with good gearing isn't comparable to any other car in STF that I know of. Correct me if I'm wrong. However, Heinz is also incredibly fast.

I'm still not seeing the crazy wear that people are complaining about, unless they're exclusively talking about abrasive surfaces, heavy cars, and huge slip angles.
If true then I'm all on board the Bridgestone train, I'll probably pick 'em up when my ZII SS wear out which I thought would happen this year but looks like they'll last well into next year.

ZIIs take forever. My Evo is about 90 runs in on the non-star spec ones and still 50% tread.
