I have been shopping around for mods that will grant me more power without voiding my warranty so... a turbo/supercharger is out.
therefore, I am stuck with intake/exhaust/weight loss and other trivial stuff.. I cannot, for the life of me, find much out there for aftermarket headers.. not even Perrin sells a header. This dude does.
Can someone answer my questions?
Why, if adding on an aftermarket header, do so few companies not make headers if they can add a great deal of power?
Are aftermarket headers legal? Will I pass emissions in Mass with them?
I dont believe it will void my warranty if I get one..
Last question.. where the blazes can I get one that meets the demands I listed above?!
A lot of companies don't actually know what they're doing when it comes to headers. Case in point, Perrin. Came up with some 'equal volume' nonsense when trying to develop headers, which showed they have no clue. Made no power and quit. Agency Power (shudder), same thing.

Nameless on the other hand is approaching their development much more systematically and scientifically.

But this leads to another issue, cost:performance for the customer as well as development cost:return for manufacturers. Proper header design can make power, but nothing like a Cobb Accessport on a turbo car. Headers are also quite labour intensive to make, which makes them expensive. So a customer doesn't see the nice hp:$ ratio they do with tunes on turbo cars. This leads to less sales for manufacturers.

Consider that Nameless is on a 5th or 6th prototype, their development cost is very high. But this shows the serious nature of their testing. They want to put out the best header available. They are trying to maximize power, and they sponsor a rally team which probably does reliability testing on their parts as well. They could have rushed out a mediocre product but didn't.

This speaks to the dedication and character of the company.

As for the emissions stuff, no idea. It will be tough to check all your requirement boxes.

Tampering with cats is federal emissions equipment tampering, no matter where you are (I think). That said, there's plenty of places that don't really enforce it. As long as a cop doesn't pull you over and look under the car (impossible with a low car) and it's obstructed from overhead view in the engine bay...you'll be fine. ODBII emissions checks are a joke too, since they're just looking for a CEL and readiness monitors.

Emissions are a joke in the U.S. take the new batch of diesel trucks, down to 12-15mpg real world from low 20's less than 10yrs ago.

I want a cat just to keep the noise down for dd purposes.

I was wondering what happened to their header. Not enough to bother reading their threads, but I wondered. Any idea what happened to all the talk about them making cams for this motor?

!

You can be a car enthusiast without modifications. But I think you came to the right thread because the safest best bang for the buck mod for this car is going to be this header with a solid tune.

Hope they release it before it gets cold, hate working on cars in the cold. Come on Nameless show some compassion

Heh, even if this comes out tomorrow, I probably wont buy it until winter. I've done enough sweating on the car this summer. Florida problems....

I've got the money burning a hole in my pocket. If this doesn't come out soon, I'll be forced to order things much lower on my list, and I really don't want to deviate from the plan

a quick tune... ECU tuning.. mapping.. this is something else I have been reading about. Tell me, is their a cheap way to tune a car after the install so that I cam maximize power output or do I have to dump a grand and buy the product? perhaps their are tuning shops near me that can hook up my car and do the tune.
I wonder if my warranty will be void with a tune!?!!!
haha god.. love hate relationship right now. so much to think about.. but I need to have more.. i want more for my baby

@Scooby South do you know if they'll offer the tune for the header on a different tuning platform.

I really don't want to support the ecutek business model and still not have access to the tune.

What?

I wouldn't expect cams from anyone outside of the most serious players in the engine internals/camshaft game.

Please take the time to learn car modding 101. Mods void the warranty of related parts. Modding is a pay to play game.

I thought it was BS to, but I'm almost positive they 'hinted' at cams a few times. I could be wrong though and I'm not gonna bother looking to find out, I wouldn't have bought them either way.

They teased headers, too.

I really don't know where Perrin gets their rep from. They were early adopters of the WRX and its turbo. Tuning a turbo for moderate gains back in the day was pretty simple. NA has always been more complex. Turbo knowledge of add boost and fuel/subtract heat and timing doesn't translate well to NA's dilemma of how the hell to push in more air once the mixture and timing is optimized.

So people need to realize that a Subaru tuner is not automatically a BRZ tuner. But that's not going to stop them from putting on the 'expert' costume if it helps them sell parts. Nor ECU tuners from trying to size fuel lines and fittings that they have no experience with.

(Also compare the Nameless fabrication quality to Perrin's 5 minute MIG job.)

We're still a ways from discovering who the real FA20 gurus are. There are some really good, smart guys that are tuning and making parts, but I still think there needs to be a more integrated approach.

Difficulty is, as previously noted, it costs money to do real R&D. And it takes a certain knowledge base just to start in the right direction.

I'm really looking forward to see what Nameless, English Racing and the Aussie rally team can all put together for the platform. I may even have the car by the time we've established who the true gurus are.

(Nameless, hope you guys are playing with intake plenum volume and runner sizing next...)
