Considering the unknowns involved in going through insurance, along with the relatively minor damage, I would probably be leaning towards getting it fixed myself and forgetting the insurance headache (potential rate changes + claims history).

However, its very easy for me to say that when I'm not about to spend my own money for something I clearly shouldn't be responsible for...

In my case, my insurance company was ok with me taking a few days to think about. I had to run around and get quotes and whatnot to decide if I wanted to fix it myself.

Its probably worth seeing if you can get more concrete info about the other party from the police and if that may help your insurance company find the other party. By the way, the second time I went to the police and actually got some info, I went fairly late, like 8-9 pm. There was hardly anyone there, so the officer didn't really have anything more interesting to do than help me out haha. Don't count on anything though.

I parked my car at young and cummer coffee time parking lot for an hour then I found somebody hit my front left bumper and took off (mother eff er).
Thanks god fully I had my dash cam running through the parking mode so i was able to find license plate number. Reported right to the collision centre and filled out the suspicious form and stuff.

I can only speak to how it works here in the us but a hit while unattended wont do anything to your rates, its a non chargeable claim and they will subrogate against the other person if they find him. I wouldn't pay out of pocket so if they do find him your company can go back and get your money back.

I was rear ended a few years ago on the highway. Pulled over and discussed with the other driver, who wanted to pull off the busy highway (parked on shoulder), and discuss in a parking lot. I insisted we stay until I received instructions from the police. While waiting in my car the other driver took off. He didn't see me write his plate number while in my car. Reported to police who then met me in a parking lot and had damage over $7000 repaired by my insurance with no deductible. Other driver had obvious damage and I am assuming the police paid him a visit.
I need to figure out how to set my dash cam in working mode without hard wiring it. Battery life probably makes this impossible.

You have to buy constant wire to work in parking mode. my dashcam turn off automatically if the battery voltage drop down to below 11vish (I forgot exact amount) to prevent discharge and automatically turns on if dash cam senses any effect on my car.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/VUGERA-Premi...item3f303ebda7

Ill leave my dash cam info here.

Man, just a random thought, but it's always sad to see people act like this. Like you made a mistake, just leave a note and contact details and just pay for repairs.

This person is living with guilt over $300.00. I bet he has a credit cards where they would spend a night at the bar on booze, but won't show respect for someones car and fix it up.

He will be ended up getting 6 demerit points for "Fail To Remain", then he has to pay me 1100 for the new bumper + 150 sidemarker + 300 Rental car fee.

I would been asked him $300 for the paint if he left any type of note or business card.

This guy's screwed up really bad man lol.

So you used a 12V cell?
And also, wired in one of the accessory outlets with a diode for charging when the vehicle ran?
Sounds doable, please tell.
