It's all good man. I should have embedded, it ended up being confusing if someone skimmed the thread, saw my link, and then saw the render, they could easily think that was the real thing. You made it easier on us.

Honestly, I'm not enthused at all by the looks of this thing. I didn't expect supercar Italian styling, but... I didn't expect a Chrysler, either.

Miata, Italian-Style: 2017 Fiat 124 Spider Debuts in L.A.

http://www.automobilemag.com/auto_sh...debuts-in-l-a/

So far so great IMO. Distinct styling, fat torque curve. 500 Abarth engine note. No mention of the "performance" version yet. This one will do just fine. Could use a little more offset on the wheel and a little lower ride height. Fiat concentrated on reducing body roll, and quieting the cabin. They also lengthened the car by 4" to improve proportions and add a tad more trunk space. 100 lbs heaver than a base MX-5, but with so much more torque it probably matters little. Final drive on the MT cars are Fiat's 3.58 (for reference Mazda's 3.45). The ATs have the same gearing in either car.

2017 Fiat 124 Spider
1.4L turbocharged I-4
HP:160 @ 5,500 rpm
TORQUE:184 lb-ft @ 2,500 rpm
WEIGHT:2,436/2,476 lb (manual/automatic)
WHEELBASE:90.9 in
WIDTH:68.5
HEIGHT:48.5
LENGTH: 159.6 in

2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata
2.0L I4
HP: 155 @ 6,000 rpm
TORQUE: 148 lb-ft @4,600 rpm
WEIGHT: 2,332/2,381 lb (manual/auto)
WHEELBASE: 90.9"
WIDTH: 68.3 in
HEIGHT: 48.8 in
LENGTH: 154.1 in

I wonder what the starting MSRP will be. It'd be fun to have a second car for sunny days.

I keep seeing NB miata in the side and rear.

I liked some of the renders that were floating around more, had a more elegant shape and was less busy - but this looks far more 124 Spyder than anything previously imagined, so kudos to Fiat for executing on the neo-retro approach. Looking forward to seeing them on the road.

Great to have choices. Now let's see the PRHT Miata, Mazdaspeed Miata and Abarth 124!

Yeah the side profile reminds me a lot of an NB Miata.

I see NB from the side and the rear too.

I'm guessing it will start somewhere between $35k and $40k.
Miata GT trim is $31k. I think this will be GT trim plus more (starting with the engine), so can't be less than $35k.

Turbo components, the Multiair turbo using a cast iron block whereas Skyactiv is all aluminum, etc.

You know a car is a serious threat when there are >4 threads discussing it simultaneously.
