A guy I work with has been looking for a used Cayman for quite awhile. The ones he wanted with relatively low miles were hard to find and disappeared rapidly. He finally found one with 59K ('08 I think?) and has been enjoying it.
Took it in for service at 60K, which runs $1000, and found it has a leaky head gasket. Price is now at $4K... I told him that's how he knows he owns a Porsche! |

I've driven it quite a few times, the engine is wonderful, definitely feels stronger than 300/300. Theirs is an auto which isn't great but it still gets the job done and has paddle shifters. The ride is great, a little rough but better than the FRS, handles the corners great and will also cruise down the interstate all day long. If I had $16k to spend on a used FRS or a used 335, 10/10 would buy the 335.

The new Miata is pretty intriguing. If I didn't do track days, I'd get one just to try something different. Unfortunately Mazda doesn't offer a coupe version, so needs a roll bar to be on track, which doesn't work for me.

I have a new Camry V-6 XLE in the fleet and recently returned from vacay to CA Sierras and Coast, all secondary roads including dirt forest roads. Performance expectations were low at the beginning during break-in but then started giving it the whip and was so impressed that I started hunting. My favorite overtake was of an Integra Type R after a 10 mile sprint through twisty CA Hwy. 49. He gave up and waved me by. The plain vanilla Bridgestone whatevers held on really well up to their limits. The car also has great connectivity with the upgrade audio system. Fuel economy was up to 30 mpg on Regular. Manual shifting is possible to an extent. You have to experience the bi-LED headlights/foglights on a pitch black mountain road, they're better than any halogens or HID's. One of the quietest cars I've driven with it's acoustic windshield, a welcome change from my FR-S with unresonated Perrin exhaust. Although I haven't driven one, another car along those lines is the lighter, smaller, more powerful Honda Accord V-6 6M/T, an unusual combination these days. Might be worth checking out, I imagine dealers will be discounting them approaching model year buildout.

yeah i would go out and test drive as many different cars as possible so you can best decide which one will best fit your needs.

At the end of the day... I might end up buying a limited brz 13 asphalt. Price was 20k with 12k miles. 1 owner and he changed his oil every 2k miles (crazy). Car is in perfect condition beside that asshole leaf that was on there. Thoughts? Questions? Concerns? I really wanted a whiteout but none is available especially for the brz.

Tough call on any car since the new models will debut in two months so everything older will take a price hit. Ideally, you could wait out that time in either a rental car or something that could become your Winter beater.
Otherwise, if you're open to the color, here's another BRZ near you but it'll need $park plug$ soon: http://dayton.craigslist.org/cto/5100628683.html |

Correct name for the car color is dark metallic grey. Going baxk tomorrow to talk to them. I already have so many extra parts for the frs such as oil, k&n intake, clear side marker. Rain guard, push button + remote starter, and motul franny oil. Funny thing is that I bought all that stuff on the day that my xar was hit. Was royally pissed when that happened. Btw anyone want an advance keys pushbutton+remote starter with the bypass+lock bypass included for a decent price?

Doesn't seem like you will be going that route, but buying any used luxury vehicle, no matter how inexpensive to purchase up front, is quite expensive in the long run. A year ago I purchased a 2007 Lexus IS. Great car. Nice. Smooth. But it was a mistake. Though the BRZ cost more, the consumables on the Lexus were already taking their toll, and with that money I realized I could afford the car I always wanted (BRZ) even though it was more expensive up front.
I did have bad luck with the Lexus. Mice chewed through my wires. Locked my rear calipers. Those had to be replaced. Harness re spliced. 2k dollars right there. Bought new tires/ alignment. 1400 dollars. Were going to last about 25k miles. Etc. Etc. Used Luxury isnt cheap. The twin is an economy car, and its maintenance costs reflect that. |
