Been debating what header to go with myself. My tuning shop said they've had good results with both borla and tomei. I personally would go with the tomei. Just seems like a better quality header. Little heavier though.

I have been very happy with my cheap Top Speed EL header. Welds were good and fit was perfect. Less than 400 bucks and I love the sound.

The last time I read that insanely long thread there were some reports of a CEL thrown on stock tunes during highway cruising (I think)

so everyone knows you dont get the full benefit of the headers without a tune, and it will impact AFR's... but no one ever seems to confirm how...
if you run a header without a tune.. does it run lean? or rich? im cool with CEL's, and im cool with running rich... im not cool with running lean or does no one know because people who buy headers without a tune are too cheap to dyno test? lol |

This is true, we just know its "not advised" although, why would you want to run rich? doesn't that foul the plugs? |

I'll try not to thread jack here, for the CEL can you just wire in a resistor, or would this have undesirable side effects?

my issue is that as soon as i touch my ecu tuning, there's no way toyota is going to warranty anything engine related. whereas if i only have exhaust work, its a lot harder for them to blame say a DI seal failure or valve train problem on the mods. i ran my 08 civic SI with header and exhuast only for years.. sure it runs a bit rich.. but i get a little more power and the sound im looking for, without having touched anything that completely voids my warranty. then again, i never had any issues with the civic that needed warranty.. so maybe my logic is flawed and they would deny warranty anyhow with a header. i dunno for sure. but thats my logic behind it. |
