AWESOME DESIGN !!!
+++ head clearance
+++ keeping the door windows
+++ keeping heater core
+++ seat recline / slide back space

I wish this was on the market when I did my cage.

Only question, the rear suspension anchor point are a lot more toward the inside of the car, can you elaborate on the reasoning behind it ? I have never seen them so much toward the inside. Is that welder preference ? or based on your software stress test ?

It's kind of a side effect of the head clearance with the main hoop tucked up into the roof. There's not a straight shot at the hoop if we were to move them further outboard due to the structure of the roof.

Oh I see, it makes perfect sense now. Head clearance is really a problem in these cars with roll cage, this is a very important detail that you seems to have solved

Ok, so I'm slipping back in time here (yay necro), but I was looking through this thread (it's great) and I saw this picture. I see that you all are using Gear 300 LS, presumably for the rear dif fluid. I was told elsewhere that regular Gear 300 is recommended for the rear dif fluid because the rear dif doesn't need the LS fluid (and thus you can combine your fluid for transmission and rear diff and save money). Is this mistaken?

Right now my car is running with a mixture of Gear 300 LS and Gear 300 for the rear diff (hey, they ran out of gear 300, and I was told that mixing the LS and the regular for the rear diff would not be a problem).

Anyway, any comments would be appreciated!

Cheers,

I read that the LS version has friction modifiers that are primarily for clutch based LSD's, but since ours is a Torsen (all mechanical) it is not needed.

GSpeed, will you guys do a used oil analysis on the engine oil?

You're correct, the 300LS is not really necessary for the differential. Isn't hurting anything, but since it's a gear-type (rather than clutch-type) it doesn't really need it. To be honest, I'm not sure why our guys put that in there. Could be since the car was new they weren't sure which LSD it had and just played it safe.

We're not planning on doing a used oil analysis, no. At least not at present time. If we have a reason to in the future we might, but right now we've got no need. Bigger fish to fry.

We got a nice big box today! Anyone care to hazard a guess as to what's inside? This is going to be a BIG addition to our build.

Correct!

We made the decision to go with the new Edelbrock E-Force supercharger for our competition needs. In addition to installing one on our product development car, we are now an official Edelbrock dealer & E-Force installer.

"Why a supercharger? Isn't a turbo the more thermally efficient option for a road racing car?"

From a technical standpoint alone, yes, a turbocharger is a more thermally efficient option. However, it wasn't just a technical decision, but also a business decision. We are in the business of making racecars, and to do that better, we need to have a more thorough understanding of what our customers want.

There are probably a dozen turbo kits on the market right now, which given the size of this niche market, is pretty saturated. We are not in the business of undercutting other people's prices, but always strive to provide high quality parts. We ran some preliminary numbers on what a turbo kit would cost us to produce with high-quality components (400+ hp able to survive an endurance race), and we don't feel enough kits would sell to ever recover our development costs. It'd be awesome, sure, but the costs would be too high for this platform/market.

Edelbrock has a long history of high-quality aftermarket performance, and the E-Force blower is no exception. Based on what people have done with the car so far, we feel like reaching our goals of competitive power for NASA Super Touring 2 or 3 is doable. We will be providing conclusive evidence that that this supercharger can survive in the Texas heat in a race environment, and what it takes to make that possible. Expect just as much data from this supercharger as we've done in the past.

Whoa... that is a big endorsement from G-Speed, I know you do your homework so that shed a whole new light on the Edelbrock for me.

I have to say that jackson racing sounds like a clear winner in simplicity but power gain is a little small to cross the supercharging bridge.

I will wait eagerly your feedback on the install and then Texas heat soaking !

Can you share with us the exact specs for the Edelbrock ? I mean did you just buy the 'out of the box' kit or did you also plan to add some small secret part 'while in there'

We're going to start with the "plain" kit and see where that takes us. We'll find the limit, and then find a way to raise that limit.

The plan for the car over the next several weeks:

1. Finish cage and paint interior
2. Reassemble car with new seats, fire system, etc.
3. Test car for post-cage shakedown
4. Install and evaluate AP Racing brakes
5. Install and evaluate E-Force blower
6. Install and evaluate aero package

The goal is a driveable 330whp or so, to make the car competitive in Super Touring. We're planning a serious aero package for this car, so the actual horsepower number may change depending on the finished product.

This is amazing! The supercharger I am looking at with a car set up similar to mine...(well until the cage) being tested at my local track! win win win
