Wow what a terrible looking button! They should integrate it into an A/T center button rocker to let you choose different options, (whether ABS is also off or not perhaps?)
Great concept though!

You mean like the sport/snow thing? I imagine that'd be somewhat difficult the emulate aesthetically, and pretty difficult to retrofit. Although, it'd be interesting to see if @Beastronix could intercept the CAN commands from an AT switch in an MT car, and use that to drive an 86Nanny... Hmm... |

Now that's just not fair. I definitely need a ride along once done.

If we were to hook that thing up somehow (doesn't even kind of fit, it's super crooked in that picture), it would rev extremely slowly, until it suddenly shot all the pistons out through the wheel wells. It's a Procharger F1X off a 1000hp Grand Sport that's sitting in the shop right now.

That's exactly what I mean. I would think if you chopped off whatever wiring was on there, and hooked up a multimeter, you could tap the button and it could work as an on/off button like it does here. I figure if their module can support multiple inputs to stage levels of the systems being on and off, it would look 100% OEM, and function in a useful way for the MT guys.

Well, today wound up being a little more interesting than we planned...
First session went decently well. The track was very green, and we had a little bit of an oversteer problem mid-corner we couldn't pin down. ![]() After the first session, we tweaked the rear ride height and softened up the rear sway bar, which helped. ![]() Times still weren't where we wanted, so we kept pushing. Started getting low 26s. ![]() ![]() But then, we had a little bit of an incident. Coming through Ricochet (fast left-hand almost blind sweeper), the back end stepped out, and we went off to the inside. Wouldn't have been that bad, except there was about a foot of standing water and mud from the rains last week. Watch this: [ame="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTyfE08o4Jc"]BRZ Splashdown - YouTube[/ame] Ouch. The Velox splitter dug in hard, and took the front bumper off with it. The car was stranded in the mud, and they had to black flag the session and pull it out. ![]() ![]() I didn't get any shots of the car all muddy, but it was a mess. You can see the front bumper is toast, as well as any underlying trim panels. Thankfully, though, there's no damage worse than that. Frame is fine, wheels are fine, it's just a muddy mess. ![]() ![]() The Velox splitter definitely did not survive. Rescue brought this back to us after they fished it out of the mud. ![]() Obvious question: Was this the fault of the splitter? Well, yes and no. It's an inherent problem with racing a "street" style splitter that hangs on the front bumper. When the splitter digs in, the bumper has to go with it. This is part of why you see most racecars have separate mounts for the splitter and the front fascia, or at least have a frame mount that carries the bulk of the load with a few cable stays up at the front. Velox made a great splitter, we just smashed it up. Incidental durability testing, if you will. So where do we go from here? Well, it's racecar time. We were planning on testing out a Grimmspeed strut bar and Essex brake kit this weekend, but this kind of stalled out those plans. Coming this weekend, we'll start gutting the car for a full cage. We've picked out the seats we're going with, and we'll document everything through here as we go. Stay tuned, it's racecar time! |
