You'd think they'd be done at their destination due to the different countries restrictions on VINs. Then again, you could argue that they're assigned as soon as they're produced, because they know the destination already anyway.

VIN's have to be generated when the car is manufactured becuase there is some 28 different places on the car that has the VIN printed. Its not just on the dash or inside of door. Try running your hands under your side view mirrors the lettering you feel thats injection molded to the housing is the VIN. Its all over the car so chop shops can't part out stolen car as easily. I believe they just don't release the VIN to customers until its officially in the US.

Most dealers were told by Subaru the pre-ordered cars would be delivered by May or June...I spoke with the manager at my dealer and he was really frustrated with Subaru because they aren't telling them anything and allocating them random BRZ's that they didn't order. It doesn't make much sense especially when most of the FRS guys got their cars in on time.

It's idiotic. SOA-"Hey, were going to give you some cars!" Dealer-"Great, our pre-order customers have been wai..." "Here are 2 extra cars you didn't order!" "Uhhh......great?" Customer-"WTF!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?"

All of this. There are "limited" allocations to each dealer that are mostly filled and Subaru decides to build random BRZs that nobody wants and distribute them to dealerships with customers having money in hand waiting for their cars.

If Subaru is like other OEMs, the VIN is assigned when a vehicle is produced but is not available for system tracking until it is en route to its destination (e.g. loaded onto the ship from Japan to the US).

I just can't imagine the March Pre-orders who are still waiting for a VIN. I've only been waiting since May and I'm already frustrated with the whole process.

It sucks. Just for shits and giggles I asked my dealer what he could do me for on a WRX; unfortunately the only PBP WRX Base is out in CA, with only Premiums and Limiteds scheduled for the Mid-West.

The 370Z is looking more and more enticing by the second...... I'm shunning Subaru vehicles after this whole thing is over, regardless of wether or not I get the BRZ. The dumbest ordering and delivery process I've EVER seen.

Its funny because i'm pretty sure a lot of us are thinking of an alternate route. If you do a quick Autotrader search for lightly used Z's you'll find them well within the respectable BRZ Limited price range. The car is a beast but when I walked up to them in person it didn't wow me as much as seeing the BRZ in person. Maybe because the BRZ is new and you dont see one on the road all the time like mustangs, z's, etc. All in all this was my first pre-order experience and it's been a bumpy road. While I was in my lurk phase I was reading so many of the nightmare stories of many of your pre-orders. What gets me the most is the fact people who were the first to jump on the pre-order and STILL haven't received their cars. Sorry for the long winded post but I wanted to end with this question: For those of you who were waiting on their BRZ to come and ended up bailing out (for whatever reason) were you able to get your deposit back? I know not every dealer gave the option for a refundable deposit but given the ridiculous wait some of you guys have had to go through and with this supposed ETA of Sept - November you would think they would be a bit more understanding |

Damned if I do, damned if I don't. I have transportation in the mean-time through the graciousness of my parents, but that won't do if I'm waiting until November. |

As many on the forums have suggested, i've done some researching and have found a 6AT Sterling Silver BRZ Limited somewhat close by. I'm pretty tempted to just jump on this even though it comes loaded with the dealer crap like the rear bumper applique (although homelink I guess isn't too bad).
I originally put down my deposit for a 6MT SWP Limited, and in all honesty, it's only an extra grand thrown in for the auto transmission. Judging from the various Auto vs Manual FRS/BRZ threads I think the auto holds its weight pretty well. I need to get over the stigma that sports cars must only be manual (as much as I would love to own this car in a standard) if it means waiting till Oct - Nov i'm not quite sure I have that much patience to hold out for it. The reason keeping me from jumping on it? The dealer markup Now I don't know if it's the dealer just tugging the rope for me but he told me there were two sales managers. One who went with the old school of thought that sticker price is sticker price, and that it shouldn't be priced over MSRP especially for a car this popular (apparently been around the business for a long time blah blah). The second sales manager (who is fairly new to that dealership) is all about making that extra sale and was the one who put that dealer markup. He told me to swing by this Wednesday when the former mentioned sales manager will be alone and wouldn't butt heads with the latter . My guess is that it's full of crap and they are waiting for a full week with the marked up price to see if it would sell before letting it loose for sticker.

There was a GBS Limited MT near me I was thinking about, then I noticed the dealer markup. Not worth the extra $2k to get it 2 months sooner.
