Is the Subaru BRZ the right car for me ?

So I live in the city, San Francisco
I will be going into either a BRZ or a WRX
I will never track the car, and I do plan
on driving it far like Reno for mini road trips
and maybe down to SoCal ...

I currently do not have any kids or a dog
but in the future I plan to have kids and a dog.

BRZ Premium ? WRX Limited 5Dr ?

It sounds like the wrx suits your needs better.

the brz is the nicer looking car IMO, but it's not kid or pet friendly at all. If five years down the road when you have such things, the wrx makes more sense.

A Kid will fit, I have a 7 month old kid and have had my wife (5-4) and my kid in rear facing car seat which is the biggest one of them, in the car and had no problems at all even on long trips she fits.

Kids will fit until say about 12 years. Pet friendly I don't know. But after a week of owning the car, go with the BRZ. What an amazing driving experience. Also, I don't plan to track the car either, so similar situation.

I guess for me it boils down to NEED vs WANT.
NEED a daily driver which does shopping trips to costco
WANT a sports car while I am still under 30 years old.

Im pretty sure you can fit a size-able amount of groceries in the Zenith. Ofcourse the wrx is practical, if it just the BRZ i think it'll do just fine.

1. You have no crotchfruit, nor what is basically a four legged special needs person.

2. It sounds like you live on the coastal side of CA.

Now, taking what I said into consideration: you will be tired of the car by time it takes for kids to get big enough to not fit in the back. Dogs: other very nice members on this forum have demonstrated how you can transport Fido in the back. Why do you want the added gas burn-rate, and to reward yourself with the sloppier driving AWD system?

Take my advice, get a used Dodge Caravan. If you don't want my advice, get the BRZ.

To go further - get a cheap used Dodge Caravan AND the BRZ

Get the BRZ. You can fit a medium dog without too many issues. Kids will be a problem but that's 5 years down the road? Alot can happen in 5 years so I'd say buy a boring family car at that time and keep the BRZ for your toy. The BRZ is just a much better sports car than the WRX. You can fit all kinds of things into a BRZ. I can fit a rollerbag (overhead bin sized), briefcase and gym bag in the trunk without the seats folded down no problem. I'm sure I could stuff another gym bag in there to give you an idea how much room you have. The seats fold down as well to fit larger items. The BRZ is not as impractical as you think.

Have you driven them both? I agree with the above, you should have no issues fitting kids of a small/medium dog for quite a few years. Unless you plan on keeping this car 10-12 years, I would think you could make the BRZ work, but the WRX is more practical for sure. Drive them both and decide.

A decent-sized costco trip is no problem in the BRZ. I recently had to deliver some stuff to a friends house and fit a tv, two decent-sized boxes, a suitcase, a vacuum cleaner, and a bunch of other decent-sized bags and objects without even having anything in the front seat.

I actually find the BRZ to be a great daily driver for me, as I am single, rarely haul anything that warrants a large trunk, usually don't have more than 1 passenger, etc. The BRZ gets much better gas mileage as well, and it's one of those cars that you should get while you're young, as in 3, 5, 7 years down the road when you want a family, unless you are very well off you can expect never to be able to get a 2 door sports coupe until you retire.

After doing some comparison, I guess my biggest pro for the BRZ over the WRX now
is its OIL filter location being on top, and along side a fumoto drain plug it'll make oil
change EZ so much so I might actually do it myself than paying someone $30.
