we wait a couple months between DIY days due to people obviously need $ to collect parts and then we can get started but.. it should be close to another DIY day.

Let's wrap at AU! I'm going to wrap my sub and interior trim soon.

Anybody have any tips for fixing an exhaust leak? I've tried to reposition the pipes but it's still there. Might need to show up to the next meetup to get that fixed.

Did you use new gaskets and/or torque everything down correctly?

Used new gaskets, I torqued everything down but couldn't fit my torque wrench to do the front pipe to over pipe. I tightened it down until it was snug.

Can you isolate the source of the leak? Like which pipe/end?

It sounds like it's the front pipe to over pipe connection. I installed a header last week and one side of the gasket (op to fp) was black. If it helps all the pipes are aftermarket except for the over pipe.

Before loosening and repositioning the front pipe, which would mean getting a new gasket, try to confirm it's the OP/FP connection with the bubble test? If the leak is obvious, this procedure is not necessary.

When exhaust is cool to touch, brush/spray some soap/water mix onto the connection and start up the car. Bubbles = bad.

If it is the OP/FP connection, I would guess either the FP/OP flanges aren't flat or the FP wasn't aligned just right. If the flanges are flat, try snugging up the OP/FP bolts first, before the FP/midpipe, then the FP hanger?

Thanks I'll try the test after class today. If the flanges aren't flat would a thicker gasket help or would I have to take them to an exhaust shop to align?

If they aren't flat, depending on how bent they are, you might be able to get away with a different gasket, but it'll probably be less of a headache to get it straightened by the shop.

So I'm installing exhaust in the next couple weeks (used TRD). I ordered a new midpipe to to muffler OEM gasket, and I'll be reusing the front to midpipe donut gasket. Anything I'm missing?

Also, I know the front to midpipe should be torqued to 14.3, but what is the specs for the midpipe to muffler?

Make sure it comes with the 3 bolts/nuts. Removing the exhaust brackets may be a pain in the ass if you don't have the tool, unless you have strong fore arms. Also, fitting a torque wrench for midpipe to muffler will be difficult due to poor design.

Good luck. Pretty straight forward bolt on/off. I reused both my OEM gaskets, but I only had 1500 miles before I swapped. No leaks so far.
