Resurrecting an old thread because I was looking into getting new spark plugs. Went to the stealership for brakes, drive belt, and an oil change, and wanted to know how much it was to replace the plugs as well.
Well, let me tell you, from the prices that I've seen in earlier posts, the price shot up big time! They quoted me just over $1300,just to replace f'n spark plugs! Needless to say,I'm not going to Toyota for that service. I called a couple of Subie tuner shops near me. One quoted $598,and the other quoted $265. I'm not so hard up for money that I'd rather have busted knuckles and a few hours of aggravation rather than just paying $265 for someone else to do it. |

That's a stupid low-ball quote. I bet they're expecting an I-4 under the hood. I would take it to the $600 shop. It's a fair quote.

I would never make it as a service mechanic. That's way too much hustle.

There's never enough time to do it right the first time but there's always time to do it over.

it's expensive to hire a professional to do it the first time, it's even more expensive to ask them to fix someone else's mistake.

An experienced hand who's navigated plugs on these engines can probably do an it under 2 hours without lifting the engine. Took me 3 hours fiddling with tools and fishing a 10mm from the undertray. Hand scraping included.

I don't watch the clock. It takes as long as it takes for each task as part of the whole. I focus on being in the moment and push away the idea of being finished whenever it creeps in.
