I'm betting it won't be mandatory anytime soon. It's failing now as a pilot project -- they can't get people to sign up.
And there would be massive backlash from all sides if the shitheads tried to do so.
But if there is a better way to get the prius, leaf, tesla etc drivers to pay their share, I'm sure they would like to hear about it.

What state agency do you work for? Easy, tax them annually at an average rate, or allow THEM to tell the state how much they drove. Keep your garbage out of my car. Sound Democrat thinking, though. We need to address a small number of people, so lets come up with something that sucks, is intrusive and fucks everyone. Perhaps they used the ACA as an example.

Been using the calculator here. According to them, if I do my best do drive my mileage as low as I can with E85 I will pay less than I do now in gas tax. I can use an eco-disaster fuel which costs less and pay less in taxes. Win all the way around.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon is about to embark on a first-in-the-nation program that aims to charge car owners not for the fuel they use, but for the miles they drive.

I wonder how much revenue they lose from people that either register their cars out of state or are legitimately traveling through. I'm sure all the folks in Vancouver, WA will be filling up their gas tanks as well as the trunks of their SUV's in Oregon.

lets start by banning studded tires, those do more damage to the roads than anything else. NOBODY NEEDS FUCKING STUDDED WINTER TIRES IN THIS STATE, not even on the other side of the mountains.
