They actually specifically mention the high pressure fuel pump in the engine bay. I would bet money that is what is "chirping"

It probably is, but every time I hear it I want to die a little bit on the inside... It sounds so bad.

The first few days I noticed it, right after I got my car, I felt the same way. It was the top of my list of complaints. I really don't even notice it anymore though.

It was early in the day. Mixed up RAM and HDD. Regardless, RAM industry standard is 10% DOA, but I haven't seen a stick of RAM fail in years. Unless someone did something to it.

You may notice, or customers may question, a "thump" or "thunk" sound intermittently when placing the new six-speed manual transmission into first or reverse while stopped. This is a characteristic of the transmission operation which occurs when any remaining input shaft rotation is brought to a quick stop by gear selection. If enough time is given for the shaft to stop turning on its own, then no thump will occur. No wear or damage is occurring as a result of this action. This sound may be more noticeable as the gear oil warms and gear selection is able to be accomplished with greater speed.

So this means that most of the noises I have heard so far are considered "normal" - intriguing.

Thanks for this. I was curious about that thud. LOL.

Man, I used to buy stuff from OCZ. Those days are gone. So much memory from OCZ and some of their power supplies bit the dust on me.

They remind me of IBM Hard Drives. Man, I had so many of those drives fail on me.

Been buying GSkill Memory recently. That and Western Digital Hard Drives and I've been keeping my sanity because I haven't had to RMA any.

this is my main concern. The high pitched chirp. It doesn't sound normal. This is an FRS btw. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...s/fefb7143.mp4

Sounds like a belt or pulley, to me.

Doesn't happen on my BRZ.

This is the type of information that should be a sticky on the forum. Some of us know what Subaru power plants are, "supposed," to sound like (I fall into this camp). Some of us are completely unaware of the idosnycrasies with Subaru engines. All of us are unfamiliar with this new FA20 and associated drivetrain. Whether we think we know what the engine is supposed to sound like or not.

We are going to hear clicks, whurrs, thumps, and buzzes that will be unknown to us. I for one noticed the transmission thump back when I drove the DGM pre-production car. I wasn't sure if what I heard/felt was okay or not. As it turns out, the car was making normal noises. Go figure.

I would like to see more documentation like this. Much thanks to the OP for the data.

Not a problem. Thanks for reading

I'll post bulletins as I get them. Thankfully it's a 2 minute walk from my building to the Subaru building so it's no trouble delivering this information to you guys.

This is actually a fantastic idea. Maybe some of us with the cars would do the forum the honor of providing said data. I would love to, but I kind of need... well, you know... a BRZ for it. Hell, if I knew somebody, I'd even go slumming with those FR-S guys for the video/audio data

By the way, DookDookDGM, you're a stand up kind'a feller

Hopefully they don't add 100lbs of sound deadening for next year's model...

Thanks for the scans! Although I was reading it for my BRZ, you unintentionally gave me some more info on my wife's 2012 Outback window issue, now I know it has a fix for it.
