I have never hated a car more than a 2011 Civic SI sedan.
crappy MPG Premium gas (loved the gearbox though) That was the best $2k in negative equity I have ever spent - No regrets |

I view the Mustang as more of a comfy grand tourer than a sports car. It can certainly be modified to be more sporty but still does not have the independent rear suspension until 2015, but then you're paying roughly $5K more vs. a new BRZ.
The 3.7L Mustang is the one to get from 2011+MY. Something like 305hp/280tq at around 3500lbs curb weight is pretty appealing, not to mention 29mpg highway. The motor also seems to respond well to mods from what I've read. I was curious about building a 3.7L "sleeper" but can't seem to find one for sale that hasn't been abused, isn't convertible or automatic. I think you'd feel more involved in driving with the FRS/BRZ. |

Anyone suggest CarMax and see if they'll work some magic for a trade??? (Haven't saw this suggestion... Sorry if repost!) Figure this would reduce any hit the OP had getting an 86...

This is a very expensive proposition - you'll be rolling a lot debt into your new loan.
That said, I went from an '07 GT to my BRZ. Best automotive decision I've ever made. The only thing I really miss about the GT is the motor. The BRZ is immensely more fun and rewarding as toy for me, and even more useful in every day life (much better mileage, more comfortable, better visibility, etc.) I didn't owe anything on the Mustang, so there wasn't as much financial impediment. After your test drive, you really need to look at the numbers and decide whether the driving experience is worth the cost. |

If you decide to trade it in, then do it. Don't be that guy waiting for the 'next model with the power increase.'

A few things I'll bring up because they haven't really been discussed here: Have you considered what roads you'll be driving on? If you live somewhere that all of the roads are only flat and straight BRZ/FRS will bore you but if you've got some fun twisty roads to drive on, then it's an amazing car to have.
Also, you mentioned you've got a family. Do you only have the one vehicle? If so, I'd really recommend against an FRS/BRZ. It might be ok while the kids are small but it will become an issue as they get bigger. |

Yeah uhm not sure about how serious you were being here but even though the twins are "slow" if you push them to the limit you can definitely get your license suspended.

Get an opposite sex BRZ.
Put Mustang and BRZ in two garage overnight after hand washing/waxing both and doing a Joe Gibbs oil* change. In the morning, the female will be pregnant and in 9 months you will either have: 1) A BRZ with a V8 and a new transmission 2) A Mustang that is lean, mean, tight and sexy In rare cases - you might just end up with a tranny. *Joe Gibbs oil is actually intoxicating to autos. Leads to lots of action and bad decision making. |

You met a girl. You had a one night stand. You married her the next day. Now you've been with her a year. She farts at the dinner table, she doesn't let you out with the boys, and her idea of dinner is Hungryman Sirloin Steak.
Nobody is going to fault you for getting out of that relationship. I hope your Mustang is not reading this. |

1. Look for somebody to trade with?
2. Write down what you want from a vehicle, then think it over. 3. Do not buy new. I could have waited 6 months, (I bought my car in july), and bought a slightly used BRZ in the middle of winter for quite a discount. Huge financial mistake. Especially if you will do anything sporty with the car. 4. Read the latest print issue of Road & Track, they compare the new mustang, fr-s and bmw. |
