I'm sorry to say that I don't fit the picture you seem to paint and neither are many (not all) of my fellow sales consultants and even sales managers. We are in the information age where just about anyone can pull up any information on the internet. It might not always be correct information since, after all, it's the internet, but it's out there. We understand this. The people of a dealership that DOESN'T understand this and is stuck in the old ways of selling cars are destined to fail. At my dealership, we are more surprised if you do not come in well-informed, and would rather you already be informed. This reduces the time of vehicle sale/purchase. We don't make a lot of money wasting a lot of time on one sale. In fact, the longer it takes, the less likely it'll be a sale. You certainly don't want your time wasted, and neither do we want ours wasted as well. On the flip side, I am sad to say that there still are individual sales people who lie, cheat and steal not only to the customers but to their own co-workers, other sales people or even the sales manager, etc. Even in my store. I personally dislike those type of people and want NOTHING to do with them to the point that I'd rather treat it like as if they don't exist to me. They are nothing but cancer, and are also the reason some of the good sales people end up leaving. These are the individuals that you seem to hate so much and obviously rant about. But, don't clump them along with those of us who are not like that. That's like making a blanket statement, such as "all black people are thugs." And don't try to deny that that's what you're doing. You've been going back and forth between "some of them are" and "they are." |

![]() For every good salesman I've experienced at a car dealership there have been at least 10 bad ones. Maybe when that skews towards neutral I'll change my attitude. And don't you dare compare the attitude towards a profession which has sullied it's own name to the plight of the downtrodden citizens of this country. |

Apparently some of you guys need to get away from the big cites and shop for your cars in smaller towns, the PNW or Canada!
I have had only one really bad experience in buying 10 new cars and 4 used cars from dealers. All the others have been wonderful.

It would have been cheaper than any local option available at the time by several hundred dollars including plane tickets and gas due to the way they were operating. Should have made a week of it and if the deal fell through I should have spent the week looking for a more interesting used option, lots of good cars up there... ![]() I also wasn't a fan of orange at the time, my whole life would have been different with that car.

So, you're different. Your dealership is different. You don't fit the mold -- GREAT! That's why I said, since you want to be pedantic, that my comments weren't aimed at anyone. Just because you and your dealership don't fit that mold doesn't mean that it's not the growing majority of cases. As you said, it's the Internet age -- surely you are well aware that the things we've been talking about here happen more and more often to people and it's all too common in the industry. Also, just to be clear, you're not saying that these things DON'T happen -- just that you and your shop don't do it that way. So again, great! Everyone should be so fortunate as to deal with folks like you when buying cars. Let's look at it mathematically, if we have 5 numbers: 1, 1, 1, 1, 10 -- what's the average of those numbers? It's 2.8. Just because YOU might be the 10, doesn't change the fact that the average is still 2.8. If you want to take things personally, that's up to you. I made my intent clear. If you don't like the reputation that your peers and your industry have earned for themselves, then take it up with those who have done the work to earn that reputation. |

But that doesn't make it right that that's how people get treated elsewhere. Everyone should be afforded the same respect and quality of experience as the fortunate few, regardless of where they live. It's a systemic problem within the industry. It's not the fault of any one dealership or any one salesperson, though those people certainly are responsible for their own actions, but many of the things we're seeing as pervasive problems have grown out of industry practices as a whole. |
