Hello all. Long time lurker figuring it's time for a first post .

I originally ordered DGM in March, but made the switch when my dealer called to let me know they had a VIN and ETA for a black and still only a VON for the grey. I didn't want any of the options other than the homelink mirror, but the car came with wheel locks, rear applique, and the chrome fender trim. I was scared that the black would be a solid color as I loved the flake in the DGM paint, and I hated the chrome fender trim as I never found a picture that made me think it looked any good. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the car in person. The paint has a nice flake that's really noticeable in sunlight, and the chrome fender trim actually adds a nice touch of color to the car.



I put 360 miles on it since I picked it up on 6/11. First trip was to Vivid Racing to pick up some parts and check out their FRS. Unfortunately, the parts weren't in, so I'm having them mailed to me. Their car is pretty sweet. Their exhaust really caught my attention. As a header-back system, it sounded amazing, but would be too loud for me. I could just imagine all the car alarms I would set off at my work's parking garage. I can't wait to hear it as just a cat-back as it may be my next upgrade purchase.

The ride of the car is as everyone else has already stated: freaking amazing! So, I'll skip all that and get to some quirks I discovered. As a bigger guy (5"10 290lbs), the seats weren't exactly super comfy. At first, the stiffness of the bolsters made it so that I barely touched the alcantara section of the back rest unless I pushed my shoulders forward a bit. When I took turns, they would poke at me while screaming "HEY FATTY FAT FAT! FLY OFF ALREADY!!!" I was able to do 100 mile trips without any real issue when brand new, and after 250 miles, I don't notice the seats anymore unless I'm taking a tight turn. I also don't notice any difference between the highest and lowest setting for the seat height adjustment lever.

As someone who always had an arm rest, my arm wanders around the center console area to find a comfy resting spot. For me the most comfortable spot is right along the hand brake. Going back to the quirks, it doesn't take much effort to set off the performance buttons. I noticed the lights flickering on and off and realized that my wrist was setting them on and off when I was feeling around inside the shift boot. I didn't even realize that my wrist was touching the buttons. I also noticed that there are notches on the side of the center console piece near the buttons that get pretty hot, both the plastic as well as the carpet, after the cars been running for awhile. What can I say? I really explored that area for a comfy rest spot .

A final real quirk that I can remember to post deals with the trunk and the emergency open latch. During a section of rolling hills, I heard a loud pop that felt like an exhaust backfire. A little further in, I discovered my open door indicator light was on, but the dome light wasn't. I pulled off and checked both doors to make sure they were close, then went to the trunk when they weren't the issue. I soon found that I had forgotten my helmet in the trunk inside its cloth bag. The cord of the bag had magically tangled itself on the emergency open latch handle and tugged it to open the trunk. This'll hopefully keep me mindful of what I have in the back, but a nice surprise was the fact that even though the trunk was open, it didn't fly open even after I kept going over some rolling hills at a quick pace. That was the reason I decided to check the doors first.

FYI for those that have them, the PS Vita bluetooth connection to the head unit is horrible. You can't even play music without major stuttering. I also hate how the navigation keeps North at the top. Good luck finding upcoming street names when heading South with the trip information basically covering everything up to the car arrow. These are my only real quips so far.

The car had some minor scratches when I picked it up so I'll be handing it back to the dealer to re-detail/fix them. When I get it back, my parts from Vivid Racing should be in for installation, then it'll be off to get some tinting done. I'll have the car broken in in time for my first real organized autocross event at the end of the month, maybe even with a new catback exhaust.

All in all, this is a great car and is the first car since my 240sx that I am actually excited about. I have a few ideas as to where I want the car to end up, but who knows how it'll turn out if all these companies keep making such awesome parts for it!

Welcome! Are you sure you want to trust the dealer to fix something they couldn't get right the first time? I just picture a pimply kid with a dirty rag back there doing the detailing...

Thanks for the welcome. If you're asking if I think that the dealership will be able to get the car perfect, then... not really. I imagine the pimply kid was the one who did the detail job in the first place and they'll tell him to take another whack at it. However, they now know that I won't settle for imperfections, and I do think that they'll do whatever it takes to keep me a satisfied customer as that's what they've been doing.

Not only are they detailing the car again, but they'll also be putting on their paint protection stuff. Might not do anything, but the fact that they'll go the extra step speaks a lot to me. Plus I don't think they'll put on paint protection knowing they'll be protecting scratches .

Worst case, I have some recommendations for detailers that I'll go to if there are still scratches. I'd like to believe they'll do it right though, especially since they're doing it for free as a courtesy. I just don't like to judge negatively until I have something negative to judge about.

So I got my car back. As I thought, the swirls are still there with some more friends, but as I also thought, the dealership will do whatever they can to make sure I'm satisfied. Met my sales person and casually showed him the swirls, he came back with the general manager who told me to take it to a professional detailer. "Doesn't matter how much, just make sure they do a job you're satisfied with. Bring us the receipt and we'll reimburse you." BAM! Tucson Subaru is an awesome awesome place. Now to find a place to clear up the swirls and maybe apply some opti-coat

Unfortunately not. None of the local detailers I found have even heard of Opti-coat, and therefore, will not use the product even if I brought it to them. They want to only use their stuff, and I respect that, but I don't want to spend money to detail a car only to have it detailed again for the treatment. I am speaking with someone in Phoenix who can do the treatment, but it probably won't get done until next month.

I also have some paint chips from possible rocks, which isn't really helping my desire to get it fixed. I was never really one who cared much about the car appearance anyhow... kinda getting to the point where I'm going to stop babying the car so much and just drive it.

We'll see how things go. I have some big plans for the car in the coming weeks. Hopefully everything will fall into place and I'll have a nice update for this thread
