Found more power between 2000 - 3000 RPM

Looking to increase drive-ability and highway mileage, I added some advance to the AVCS Intake safe table to see if it drove better or worse.

Changing just this table has a really good feel to it. Accelerates well in traffic, and transitions to full throttle well.

I want to see actual logs and dyno numbers I don't trust "feel"

Wryan @ VIP performance owes me some dyno time. I'll see what I can do. It wouldn't make any difference to you if you don't do your own tuning with RR and an OFT anyway. I've already felt the difference between a short tube EL header and the PLM long tube header running the same OFT OTS stage 2 EL tune. This would give me a chance to prove it.

I'd like to have 5 completely different maps to play with, so I can compare and optimize different sections of the maps. The really counter-intuitive thing is that only the Intake map changes made any difference for the better, yet I'm compensating for a new exhaust. I'd like to find changes I could make to the exhaust table as well, since this is for the exhaust anyway. I think this header can go a long way to increasing the daily drive-ability around town if properly tuned to maximize volumetric efficiency at lower, (2000 - 3000), RPMs. Maybe I'll post a video in the meantime.

I've played with cruising cam timing, and have run into situations where if you have a car that breaths TOO well, you can get cam timing overadvance codes....

Best PLM long tube header tune yet!

I was looking up a thread and a DBW table for another thread today and i realized that somehow I'd reverted to the OTS OFT DBW table, instead of the custom one I was using 2 months ago. It was a custom DBW table made by @Wayno for an economical E85 tune. He didn't like using it on petrol tunes, but I tried it and I liked it better.

After loading it in RR, copying, and pasting into my latest tune, I noticed something , well, enlightening. The torque dip compensation lines weren't between 2800 - 3200 like I thought. Instead they are between 3600 - 4000. So, I decided to totally change my Intake safe map from my latest tune to compensate between 3600 - 4000.

Here's the result. Dyno results to come later as time allows.
This tune rocks compared to all my other tunes, including the OTS tunes from shiv@openflash.

VIP Performance Dyno pulls scheduled!

Dyno pulls are scheduled for Monday June 15th with Wryann of VIP Performance. I'll be pulling on freshly flashed tunes with no adaptation. which will at least level the playing field. Are there any OFT OTS tunes you would like to see in the comparison? Although I believe my latest tune works best with the PLM long-tube header, I'm willing to try other tunes for comparison. I know from experience the OFT stage 2 EL tune falls flat on it's face between 3500 - 4000 RPM's with this header, but the max HP might be higher, as well as peak torque. You can PM me or just reply to this post. I'll be checking both.

I'd like to see the Stage 2 93 EL tune if possible.

That is a Stage 2 93 EL tune. It just happens to have a Stage 2 91 EL timing table, if you get my drift. In general, this table compensates for air flow, and the air flow is the same for 91 and 93 Octane Petrol. It's a lot more complicated than that with a lot more variables, but without having a dedicated dyno of my very own, I can only get this roughly close to ideal. The good news is I tried modifying this table 2 different ways and driving it yesterday, and neither of the tunes was any better than the tune with this table.

I'm getting a 2.5" to 3" adapter flange, and installing it the weekend of the 20th - 21st. This will alter the resonant wave reflecting off the overpipe flange, since the adapter has a roughly 2" long, funnel-shaped, opening to transition from just under 3", to just over 2.5". This adapter won't work with a stock overpipe, because the bolt holes are too wide, but should work with my cheap Top Speed Pro 1 2.5" overpipe. I will be modifying the AVCS table(s) to make the best use of the better air flow. I will try getting pictures/video of the install, depending on my patience and presence of volunteer cameramen. I will also try getting a before and after dyno to show any performance gains.

Dyno runs

The first 2 are OFT OTS stage 2 91 Octane EL and UEL, the next three are my best tune without @Wayno's additions, my best tune with @Wayno's additions, and @Wayno's stage 2 UEL 91 v66A tune, ported to A00D. The biggest changes aren't evident at full throttle, so a dyno isn't the best place to compare low-to-midrange power. My AVCS changes are in the 3rd and 4th pics, and show a slightly higher HP and Torque then @Wayno's tune in the 5th pic. I think I'm on the right track, but made the changes too large and over-compensated.

I love that you're detail oriented. Looking forward to future results!
