Factory 0w20... I've been to both Toyota, Toyota/Scion and Subaru dealerships, all were within a couple dollars of each other.

60K service is over $900 with the spark plug refresh! That was after I reminded my dealer of the maintenance schedule because he was quoting me about $200 because it was a major.

He looked at the schedule again and literally said "Oh f@#, this is ridiculous" into the phone.

I'll be doing this one myself since its out of warranty at this point.

Have you looked at what it takes to get at the plugs? The recommended procedure involves lifting the engine 6".

I am pretty confident the sparks can be changed without lifting the engine. This will be one time I'll be happy I have small hands. The trick is use short wobble extensions.

Oil changes at Toyota are $62 after tax.... Can't be bothered to save that extra few bucks.

Also, this isn't even that expensive. Your basic 3 series has way bigger maintenance milestone fees

You guys are lucky that you get the option of doing non dealer maintenance, Every car that you buy here will have to be serviced and maintained by the dealer fully, otherwise your warranty does not apply.

Maintenance section of the documents and manuals they gave you (unless you bought used and that stuff disappeared)

There are DIYs here I believe that effectively say that will work. I guess I'll see when I decide to do it.

I just finished my 96k (60k mile) service and they were unable to replace spark plugs or fuel filter. They did not have the parts in stock and didn't have any pricing for the service. They have added the parts to stock now and quoted the service costs as follows

Replace Fuel Filter - $350 - (2hrs + parts $50)
Replace Spark Plugs - $570 - (3hrs + parts $84)

Keep in mind this is Scion Canada and CDN$$. I believe the hourly rate is around $150. I can do the spark plugs myself and not lift the engine but I think I will let them take my fuel tank and fuel pump apart to change the fuel filter. I don't feel like messing with that.

From what I've seen when looking, there isn't even enough space to get the coilpacks off the plugs.

I would LOVE to be wrong on this one, but unless I'm missing something I just don't see the room.

I think there is a DIY on it somewhere. You need to use a swivel socket attached to a spark plug socket and a couple of short wobbly extensions. It has been done. Probably takes a bit of playing around to get the coil packs out but apparently its doable for a backyard mechanic. A dealership probably couldn't be bothered but for me that would be the best option.
