In my mind @ 2700lbs and 180hp, I might as well buy an MR-S, and franky I think it'd meet the same fate, unless it can be far more practical (likely what with +2 seats and a trunk) and cheaper (unlikely, the MR-S was $24K Base). Because It certainly wouldn't be much faster.

If you want a fast car for cheap, buy a used mustang GT. A real sports car isn't fast in a straight line, it's fast in the corners.

The only similarity is the Toyota emblem!

This FT has be 1,000kg or bust! If not we can all sue Sony!

Sec. 281. Fraud In The Inducement - False Representation

The FT-86 is what the Celica should have been.

I think what tainted the Celica was when they went from FR to FF for the 4th gen version.

Granted and I agree, however with the MR2 and he Supra in the lineup, I think the bigger slight was when they stopped making the GT4 version.

Luckily for Sony they state FT-86 concept.

Actually, the 2011(?) Mustang **is** quick in the corners and bases at just over.. $23k?

p.s., wtf is this malarchy about sports cars not being fast in a straight line?

What that before or after the whole Celica-Supra? Its like Toyota was caught between a blonde or a brunette.

AWD... turbo... 3TC... 22R... Starlet!! Toyota had some sick sh*t back in the days!

As a long time Celica driver I sure as hell hope it isn't like the 7th gen. It was light weight and Zippy, but it got its ass stomped by the RSX, and it had little aftermarket support, without dropping $$$ (which I did). Also the Celica was looked at as a weak car, and I don't see that from the rwd FT. Apples to oranges...I hope.

lol. They made the GT-4 in every version after the switch to a fwd platform, up to, but not including, the 7th gen. You guys only got the ST185 All-trac (GT4) IIRC

Fast is an opinion, and is parallel with how fast someone has driven before. Therefore, depending on how fast you have driven you may or may not be on the same page with me.

I've driven a Lotus Elise.

Real sports car = check
fast in the corners = check
fast in a straight line = nope

and it runs high 12s/low 13s stock.

We got the 4th and 5th gens in Alltrac form. One 4th gen for sale locally for $1500 'needs work'. Almost tempted to ditch the Legacy for an all Toyota, all year performance family... But common sense prevailed.

For me fast in a straight line deals more with acceleration than top speed. Where I was born and grew up, the "highways" are all pretty much winding, mountainous roads. Nowhere to do a 200mph run, unless you have a veyron and are willing to ditch it a) into the sea, b) over a bank into a mountain gorge or c) into the side of a mountain at the end of your run.

As per your reference, I can think of a lot of Ferrari (which no one can deny are real sports cars) that are fast and are real sports cars. Lotus own Exige will hit 60 in under 4 seconds, and really, if you aren't in a track/race car or supercar, than quick enough for me to call them fast. Are you a "10 second car" kinda guy?

Yes, you'd be correct.

God, tell me about the "needs work". We are almost finished with my brother's S12 project, and I'm here trying NOT to pick up a rwd starlet and put the extracted CA18ET engine it it, for kick and shenanigans.... and general hooning.

I just don't think a car is "fast" until it does low 11s. Quick is 12s-13s, I'd even say the Miata is quick and it's a hell of a sports car.
