I can't believe it's actually a news story that Honda set the hp where it is for durability. I mean, duh no shit master of the obvious...

Lol at the 2.0 liter being "too expensive" for an Si model. That's hilarious. However I bet it has entirely to do with the 2.0 engine being built in the UK, unlike every other part of a Civic Si.

New 2018 Honda Civic Type R Shines In First Review

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zcxMlQlrE1Y[/ame]

Quote:
The Honda Civic Type R is finally coming to America and a lot of fans are curious to see if the model was worth the wait.

We're getting an early answer as Inside Lane has posted a video review of the hot hatch which recently claimed the front-wheel drive Nürburgring lap record.

Based on the clip, it's fair to say the car was well received as the reviewer praised the six-speed manual transmission as an "absolute delight" and noted its turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine allowed the car to reach 150 mph (241 km/h) on the Autobahn without breaking a sweat. Other highlights include a comfortable ride quality and a steering system which provides pretty of feedback.

While most competitors have all-wheel drive, Honda got around this by using a limited slip differential and clever engineering. The end result is "very impressive" as the model exhibits minimal torque steer unless you're going all out.

The reviewer admits the car isn't as hardcore as its predecessor but he says that's not a bad thing as the model is better overall and would make a decent daily driver.

While we still don't have official pricing, according to a leaked window sticker, the new Civic Type R will cost $33,900 in the U.S.

I dig the Engineering Explained review, didn't realize the thing would have a better power to weight than the STI, Golf R, and near enough the same as the FoRS.

Looks like a pretty great car, I think at this point the only thing I wouldn't be a fan of is the 20" wheels >$1k per set of tires unless you get Hankook V12, Pirelli Nero's, or Sumitomo's looking at Tirerack right now.

Sweet tech info.
Still very weird to see a TYPE R in the US.

Still, $1000 for a set of tires for a car of the CTR's performance isn't really that bad.

They're 245's... A set of 245 RE71R's for a 17" wheel is <$700, same diameter as the >$1k 245-35-20 280TW Continentals on the CTR... RE71R on a 19 is ~$1.1k,

idk, I just feel like they sacrificed tire cost and unsprung weight for a pretty brake kit and fat wheels. We'll see, maybe the bbk brings pad costs down enough to live with the increased tire cost, but that's rare in my experience, tires are almost always the most expensive consumable with the exception of fuel.

Doug DeMuro Blasts Civic Type R On Styling And Noise, Likes Handling

[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UTURtQvSvHI[/ame]

Quote:
While some reviews have pointed out a few negatives with the 2017 Honda Civic Type R, the general consensus seems to be that it's a very well-rounded hot hatchback.

As for Doug DeMuro, even though he didn't end up hating the new Civic Type R, there were plenty of things that didn't sit right with him, such as the styling of the rear section, the fact that it sounds like "his dad's old Camry" and the fact that it simply felt slower than a Focus RS or a WRX STI.

Sure enough, the 2017 Type R is down on power compared to its rivals, pushing down 310 PS (306 HP) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque through its front wheels.

What's really surprising though is that it doesn't suffer from torque steer, which DeMuro demonstrated by doing a few acceleration tests without holding the steering wheel - and no, the wheel didn't even flinch.

Overall, he liked the handling, the steering, rear legroom, the comfortable seats and comfortable ride, but ended up being disappointed by the rear end design, the soundtrack (or lack of) and the straight line performance.

So if you're the Focus RS or the Golf R for now, you're probably not too worried about the Honda.
