Honda tried too hard on that back-end. Why can't we just get a nice, clean and simple bumper without all the "sporty/ricy" fake grill..

Honda's Thinly Masked Civic Hatchback Prototype [Updated]

Quote:
While the all-new 5-door Civic is making its global debut in Geneva in prototype form, Honda wants us to know that the production-ready model will be soon to follow.

The new hatchback will be 30 mm wider, 20 mm lower and 130 mm longer than the current model, while also featuring wider wheels. According to Honda, this will give the car an assured stance and an overall dynamic appearance thanks mostly to a new and "provocative" design.

At the front, the new Civic comes with large air intakes, while LED headlights and the DRLs are tucked nicely beneath the sculpted bonnet.

The rear of the car features distinctive C-shaped LED lights and a bumper design that incorporates angular creases and vents meant to showcase an overall more aggressively-styled compact car than we were normally used to seeing from Honda.

"We knew that we needed to create a striking and stand-out exterior design that challenged conventional European compact styling while staying true to the original Civic’s core values," said project leader Daisuke Tsutamori. "The result is a marriage of distinctive and sporty design, rewarding driving dynamics and versatile practicality."

The all-new Civic hatchback will come with a range of three powertrain options: 1.0-liter & 1.5-liter VTEC turbocharged petrol engines, and a revised 1.6-liter i-DTEC diesel unit.

The petrol engines are based on a completely new structure and sport developed turbo systems and variable valve motion technology, thus reducing friction and achieving better output and environmental performance. In fact, Honda is using the terms "class-leading" when referring to them, but we'll have to wait until they show us some numbers that back up those claims.

Though a global product, Honda's 10th generation Civic hatchback will be built exclusively in Europe.

It's not their best (1st gen NSX and S2k) or worst (3rd gen TL) design. It just looks ok too me.

I somehow doubt it. The '15 Si was the same price basically as the EX-L. I don't think the si will have all the bling bling touring model features.

Patent Images Show Production Spec 2017 Honda Civic Hatchback

Quote:
Behind the sports trimmed and accessorized 5-door Civic Concept shown at Geneva this month, lies the production-spec variant of the compact hatch and these recently emerged patent images prove it.

Yes, it appears that the road-going Civic Hatchback surfaced online before its debut, continuing the Civic family design implemented by the coupe and saloon variants.

Although looking much more tamed than its show-only counterpart, it appears that the Civic Hatch will stay true to the original, sporting the same basic ingredients and lines. Sure, the big wheels are gone, and so are the side skirts and front and rear aprons, but both bumpers seem to keep the big (and possibly dummy) air vent format. Don’t expect high-glossy piano black exterior accents either, and you can wave the central-mounted mufflers goodbye - at least on the base models.

That said, don’t get your hopes down just yet, as the concept may still actually preview a sporty edition of the Civic 5-door hatch. Nevertheless, before we start drooling over a potential Si or Type S model, with a rumored de-tuned 2.0-Litre turbocharged engine taken out of the Type R, we should concentrate on the mainstream variant’s powertrain options.

Two new VTEC turbocharged gasoline engines, including a 1.0-litre and a 1.5-litre, will be available for Europe, while a 1.5-litre and 2.0-litre turbo should be reserved for the U.S. market.

Honda. Great engineers. Clueless designers. Nobody bought the Crosstour because it was UGLY. So what do they do? Cancel the big Crosstour and then make a little one.
Sigh.
